Part 7: treeline

                                      Your POV

As I'm making my way to find Newt I run into the one and only, Gally,

He stops me right outside the meeting area hut,

"Where you headed greenie?"

"None of your business, shank."

He grips my wrist, "listen here, shuckface, I know you've got something to do with this, and your little boyfriend, Thomas too, I'm going to find out sooner or later."

"Get off of me! I have no idea what you're talking about."

He doesn't let go of my wrist,

Newt comes out from nowhere,

"Gally! Stay away from her." Newt warns,

"Whatever." He rolls his eyes,

"shank." Gally mutters under his breath,

"He can be a real jerk sometimes." I turn my attention to newt,

"What were you doing over here anyway?" He asks,

"Looking for you actually."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah, I was hoping to talk to you, alone."

We walk behind the hut, away from others,

"Look, Y/n, I know you're worried about Minho and~"

"That's not what I wanted to talk to you about actually." I cut him off,

He raises an eyebrow,

"I realized we haven't been spending as much time together as usual, part of that, well most of that is probably my fault but I thought maybe now would be a good time?"

"There is something I want to show you, follow me."

He does as asked and I lead him a bit past the treeline,

"I don't think it's a good idea to go too far."

"Don't worry, it's just here." I point above us,

He stops and looks up, "a tree?"

"Not just any tree, I like to climb it, I come here to sit and think about things."

I put my leg up on a branch and pull myself up a few more,

"Be careful." Newt calls from below,

"You're next!"

"No way."

"Pleaseee, just climb up."

He debates for a moment,

"Fine."

I smile as he makes his way up, he sits on the branch closest to mine,

"y/n if I fall~"

"You won't fall newt."

I climb higher, and higher,

"Y/n! Don't do that."

"It's fine, I do this all the time, you know, it's really cute that you care so much."

I look down from the higher branch,

"Yeah well come back down, you're worrying me."

"Anything for you." I smile,

I quickly make my way back down to him,

He looks at the ground nervously, although he's not very high up, anxiety is a thing,

I notice it, "we can go back down if you want."

"No, no, I'm fine." "So, what exactly do you come here to think about?" Newt asks,

"Lots of things, for example, I try to imagine what life outside of here would be like, or what it was like, before."

It's silent for a few moments,

I decide to lighten the mood,

"I think about other things too, like.." I let out a small laugh,

"Like what?" He looks at me confused,

"Boys." I tease,

"Boys, huh? Which boys?"

"In the glade." I continue,

"Who?"

"Oh you know, the chickens, goats, stuff like that." I laugh,

"Very funny."

I look into his eyes, "I think about you."

He doesn't respond for a moment,

Finally he shows that adorable smile that I love so much,

"What exactly about me?" He asks,

"Your smile."

He laughs, "my smile?"

"Yes, seriously, When you smile, it reminds me of the sun, how it hits the glade, you know when the sun hits the walls at the perfect angle? Just like that."

"Y/n, can I confess something to you?"

"Sure, anything."

He leans in close, I look at him, he looks down for a moment, I can feel his breath against my skin.

"Y/n!!" Chuck yells, "Y/n?! Where are you?"

I look up from newt, he moves back slightly, careful not to fall from the tree,

"I'm over here chuck! In the tree!" I call down,

He finally sees me, and newt,

"What are you two doing in the tree? Nevermind that, the walls are going to close soon, everyone is gathering and Thomas is looking for you."

"Thanks chuck, I'll be right down."

Me and newt look back at eachother, no words are exchanged and we climb down,

I don't wait for newt and I start running to the walls,

All the other gladers are already standing in front of the opening,

The doors are going to close any minute.
