Part 12: Life's not fair

"What do you mean? By yourself?"
Minho questions me.

"I did, it's dead, and I think we need to check it out."

"You just got out of the maze an you're that eager to get back in?"

"Yes, it could be useful, a clue or something, nobody has ever seen a griever and now we have one so you tell me that you're not even a little curious?"

"No, not really."

"She's right but there's no way gally is just gonna let us go back in like that." Thomas speaks up,

"Then we'll find a way." I continue,

"We need more people, soon, but I have to help out with some things so let me know."

"Yeah, okay." Thomas answers after a few moments.

Small time skip~

Thomas hasn't come to me at all, I've looked for him and I couldn't find him but I didn't want to raise any suspicion so I haven't questioned anyone.

I hear a commotion from the keepers meeting area, I know technically I'm not allowed in there but a little peek won't hurt anyone,

As I make my way into the hut, everyone else that was needed was there, Gally, Minho, Zart, Jeff, Clint, Newt, Frypan, Winston and even Thomas.

He is not a keeper.

Gally spots me, not that I was not to get caught, I didn't care because honestly I was just curious,

"Well it was nice of you to join us."

"Last time I checked those two..." he points to me and Thomas, "aren't keepers, so do you mind waiting outside?"

Minho steps up, "they stay." "Whats this about?"

"We got two hours until sun down, we have to figure out what to do with Alby." Newt speaks,

"You wanna banish him?" I state more than question,

"No one wants to banish anyone alright, but he's stung, we don't have a choice." Gally answers,

"Yes we do." Thomas protests,

"You say something newbie?" Gally taunts,

"Yeah we do have a choice, we don't have to banish Alby."

"Why's that?"

"We found this." He hands Gally any object,

How did I not see that?

"Where'd you get that?!" I question,

"From the griever." Thomas answers,

"You left? Without me? You didn't tell me?" I raise my voice slightly,

"You were too busy with.." he cuts himself off,

"With what?" I cross my arms,

"Nothing, I don't want to argue with you y/n."

"Whatever Thomas but this is not over."

Gally interrupts, "you're right, it's not, because you two haven't been punished, but that's a whole different discussion."

"Is there anything else you've been keeping from me?" I ask nobody in particular,

"There's a girl, she came up while you were gone." Jeff blurts,

"What."

Thomas doesn't even blink twice,

"Let me guess, you knew about that too?"

"So what if I did."

"You're really getting on my nerves."

"That's why I'm here."

I stick my middle finger up and flip him off,

He rolls his eyes.

Newt interjects our conversation, "That's enough, alright."

"We need to decide their punishment." Gally starts,

"For what?!" I blurt,

"Oh I don't know...going into the maze, oh I don't know, not being a runner." He mocks me,

I look at newt, he gives me a sympathetic look but doesn't say anything,

"Well..?" Gally speaks again,

"Minho, what do you think?" Newt asks,

"Look I don't know if they're stupid or brave, but whatever it is we need more of it." He answers,

Gally speaks up again, "they still broke the rules."

"Two nights in the slammer, no food." Newt decides.
