The conversation drifted to shagging and snogging, but Abella just wasn't interested. What she was interested in was learning how to defend herself.

So, when Abella had overheard Hermione trying to convince Harry to create a sort of secret club where he could teach people how to really defend themselves, she was desperate enough to consider it.

The reason Abella was so desperate was Voldemort's return, of course. She may have despised Harry with every bone in her body, but she was not stupid. Her father had spent most of the summer away, being secretive, and looking extremely tired all of the time. Every Slytherin with parents in high positions knew what was coming. Not all Slytherins, of course, just the important ones.

And, despite herr pride in being a Parkinson and a pureblood, Abella didn't wish to hurt Muggles or Muggleborns. Abella didn't want to be wrapped up into the war, but if she had to be, she'd want to be on the right side. Even if that side held everything she had loathed.

So, when she turned up at the Hog's Head, it was an understatement to say everyone there was shocked.

Abella stood in the shadowed corner, arms crossed, and scowling at all of their skeptical, resentful\ faces.

When Harry trudged in behind Hermione and spotted her it was like he was frozen in time.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

Time sped up again.

"The fuck do you think?" Abella snapped back.

Harry crossed his arms standoffishly. "I think you're here to rat us out to Umbridge."

"I hate her as much as you do," Abella replied. She was sincere, but talking to Harry still left a bitter tinge to her words.

Harry scoffed. "Yeah right."

"I do!" she insisted.

"She didn't lock away your broom and ban you from playing quidditch, though, did she?"

Abella clenched her fists at her sides. "No."

"Then you can't hate her as much as I do."

"That's not the point, Potter," Abella huffed in annoyance. "I hate her and I want to learn to defend myself. I'm not some fucking mole, alright? Nobody even knows I'm here."

Hermione leaned into Harry and murmured something in his ear. It seemed to ease his tension a bit, but his glare was still penetrating into hers.

"Fine."
