"Hey, uh, do you wanna go out tonight? We can go to the Dingo or somethin'?" Johnny asked me.

"Yeah, sure, that sounds fun." Me and Johnny were walking home from school. Ponyboy didn't go today, he had a headache from getting beat up a while ago. "Hey, uh, I had a question."

"What?" Johnny asked, concern in his voice.

"A--Are we going to tell the guys?" Me and Johnny had been dating for a few weeks, and we didn't tell anybody.

"Um... I don't know. They're probably going to find out sooner or later."

"Okay. Uh, should we tell them tonight?" I asked.

"Sure," Johnny said, smiling.

When we got home, everyone except Dally was at the Curtis house, which is normal. Dally is always at some party getting drunk, or he's in jail or in trouble with the police or something.

"Uh, we have to tell you guys something," I announced to everyone.

"What?" Everyone asked.

"Um... me and Johnny are... dating," I told them.

Two-Bit started cracking up, but when he realized we were serious he stopped. "Really?" He asked.

"Yeah..." I mumbled.

"That's great," Darry said.

"It's about time Johnny gets a girl," Sodapop laughed.

Johnny grinned.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Ponyboy asked.

"What?" I asked him.

"Well... I mean, what if you break up? What would happen? Would you avoid each other?" Ponyboy ranted.

"I don't know. But we're together now, that's what matters," I said, sternly.

Johnny didn't say anything.

"Okay, I'm just saying... what if it's a mistake?"

"We'll be fine, Ponyboy. Just stay out of it if you're not going to be happy for us."

"Yeah, Pony, lay off 'em," said Darry from the kitchen.

"How long y'all been... goin' out or whatever?" Two-Bit asked, laughing.

"Um... a few weeks now. Almost a month," I responded.

Johnny still didn't say anything.

"A month? That's longer than any of Two-Bit's girlfriends," Sodapop said, cracking up.

"Just wait 'til Dally finds out," Ponyboy mumbled.

"Whatever, Ponyboy. If you're not going to be happy about it, just leave us alone," I said, leading Johnny out of the Curtis house.

We walked over to the Dingo to get something to eat, but Johnny didn't say anything on the way there. "Are you okay, Johnny?" I asked.

Johnny looked up at me. "What--oh, uh, yeah, I guess," he mumbled.

"What's the matter with you?" I asked him, concerned.

"I--just--what if Ponyboy is right? What if this is a mistake? I mean, it is going to change everything," Johnny told me.

"You agree with him?" I asked, sassily.

"Well, I mean, I like you, and I want to hang out with you and everything, but what if we do break up? It happens. I mean, would we never talk again? Or what, man? I don't know--" Johnny explained.

"You really think Ponyboy is right?"

"No--I just--"

"No," I interrupted, "if you are going to act like this and talk about what's going to happen when we break up, we probably shouldn't be together anyway. You don't care about me, anyway, Johnny, do you? I kept quiet for so long, because I didn't want to mess the group up, but you already know how I feel. So, what's the point in breaking up and not talking ever again now?"

"I--I don't know, (y/n)," Johnny said, calmly.

"Whatever, Johnny," I said, getting up from the table and storming out the door.
