The phrase, "time flies when you're having fun" has never been more relatable than the summer going into my fourth year. Mum and Dad were so pleased I wasn't angry with them for keeping Remus a secret from me. In fact, when I'd told them I wanted to spend more time with him, they were more than happy to set it up so every other week would be spent with him.
Remus had been keeping in contact with Sirius, letters were brief in case they were intercepted, and they never stated where he was. One letter was even addressed to me;
Mira,
I'm so glad that you and Remus are spending more time together. I'm aware he doesn't really have somewhere steady to stay in the present climate. So while I'm still on the run, I've given him access to my childhood home, there are many rooms and I expect you to make yourself comfortable. Treat it as your own, the only thing you'll have to worry about it my house elf, Kreacher, he's not the kindest so don't be at all offended if he doesn't take a liking to you. Hope to hear from you, have a nice time!
Sirius
And so started my weekly trips to Grimmauld place. Remus and I took the liberty of cleaning whatever we could, since the house had been mostly unoccupied for thirteen years. Sirius wasn't kidding about Kreacher, he'd started yelling the moment he saw us, thinking we were intruders. It took a lot of shouting and explaining for him to quiet down, still, he wasn't happy to see us there.
"The house of my masters, defiled and disgraced. Outsiders living within the noble house of Black," he would mutter whenever he saw us.
We mostly kept our distance from him, also trying to ask him for as little as possible. And so that's how my summer went, one week I'd be home in the Burrow with my loud and rowdy brothers and sister. Then at the end of the week I would pack a bag and take some floo powder to Sirius's quiet home where Remus was waiting for me.
"You're getting so big!" Remus greeted with a hug when I'd come through the fireplace for the last time for the summer.
I laughed, "You said that last time."
"Well, it's true, you already look like a young woman, hopefully all those boys keep their distance," he joked, "Come, I whipped together something to eat."
Remus was always rather quiet, but it was a nice change compared to the Burrow, "So the Quidditch World Cup is next week. Dad got tickets," I smiled.
"Are you excited?" He asked.
I nodded, "Very. Charlie and Bill are coming with us, I hadn't seen them in ages."
"Well looks like you're in for quite a year," he smiled.
"What do you mean?"
He put his cup to his mouth, "Oh nothing, you'll find out soon enough. Has Molly gone to buy your dress robes yet?"
I furrowed my brows in confusion, "Dress robes? For what?"
"I'll take that as a no, don't worry. I'll pick out something nice and send it on to you when it gets closer."
"When what gets closer?" I pressed.
"I think black is classic, but you don't want to blend in, I have a good idea of what will help you stand out," he muttered while continuing his plate. Our final week together entailed getting my supplies for school and looking at dress robes. Indeed, the idea Remus had was incredible as he explained what he was thinking to the seamstress and payed that very same day. I insisted he didn't have to do that but he responded with, "Let me spoil my daughter for once."
The seamstress took my measurements and was absolutely beaming as we left the store, insisting I was going to look so beautiful. I kept asking what event I was to wear the dress, but Remus wouldn't tell me. By the time the week drew to a close I was upset. It would be a while until we saw each other again.
