Chapter 9 : You Pass

"Drop from the program?! That means we will never become ninjas! You said if we couldn't get the bells we would go back to the Academy! You can't just change your mind and kick us out! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT! " Naruto screamed from his place on the pole kicking his legs.

"Actually he can Naruto," Karen said still with a blank expression on her face.

"Because you three don't think like ninjas. You think like brats," Kakashi said.

Karen sighed as Sasuke charged at Kakashi. Who pinned him down in an instant. "You three think it's all about you," Kakashi continued as if he wasn't just interrupted and as if his knee wasn't pinning down a thirteen-year-old genin. Sasuke struggled to get out of his grip.

"Let's go of Sasuke! You can't sit on him like he some bug!" Sakura shouted at him.

"You don't what it means to be a ninja. You think it just a game, huh?" Kakashi demanded with anger lace in his voice. "Why do you think we put you in squads. The point of this exercise clearly didn't cross the three of guy's minds once!"

"There was a point to this?" Naruto asked confused.

"Wait there are four of us why do you keep saying three?" Sakura asked.

"Because Karen was the only one who got the point of the exercise," Kakashi said.

"What was the point?" Naruto asked.

"Teamwork," Karen muttered wanting to get this over with so she could go train or read.

"Yes if you four had worked together Karen wouldn't be the only one with a bell," Kakashi said. Sakura looked at the bell that was in Karen's hand.

"You set the exercise with four people, but only three bells! If we were to work together to take them, only three of us would have a bell, which would lead to conflict, and the squad would break up!" Sakura shouted.

"Exactly, I purposely pitted you against each other. I wanted to see if you would over cone that fact. But no...it never even crossed your minds," Kakashi said anger in his voice.

"Sasuke, you were so blinded by your own ego that disregarded Karen's help."

"Naruto, you do everything on your own because you think that how a Hokage act, but even the Hokage needs help sometimes."

"Sakura you were so obsessed with Sasuke, that you didn't bother to help Naruto that was in front of you.  You also ignore your sister when she asked for help."

"Karen good job for learning the point of this exercise and getting one of the bells," Kakashi said. Karen nodded to him as Sakura glared at her for showing her up. Kakashi sighed at Sakura's behavior.

"A day will come when one of you is taken hostage, and you are forced to make a tough choice when you are on a mission. Your lives will always be on the line," Kakashi said putting away his kunai that was placed against
Sasuke neck before getting off of him.

Kakashi then walked over to a stone. "Look at the marker...all the names carved on this stone are heroes of our village," He said with a sad expression on his face. "But the one listed here isn't just any hero."

"What kind of heroes are they?" Naruto asked excitedly.

"It a KIA stone it means killed in action," Karen said while laying on the ground bored.

"Oh," Naruto said less excited after hearing Karen's words.

"This memorial includes the names of my close friends," Kakashi said turning to face the four genins. "I'm giving you all one more chance to get the bells. You may eat one of the bento boxes, but no sharing with Naruto he doesn't get to eat. Why because he tried to sneak lunch for himself, if either of you feed him you fail the test right there, my word is law do you understand?" He puffs away without letting them answer.

"Hey, this will be a breeze. I can go without lunch no problem," Naruto said as his stomach growled while Sasuke, Sakura, and Karen were eating their Bentos.

Karen looked down at her bento before sighing she gets off the stump and looks at Naruto.

"Here," she said as she hands him the bento. "I'm not even hungry so you can have it. Plus you will need your strength to fight Kakashi-sensei later," Karen said.

Sasuke looked at Karen before he did the same.

"Bu...but Sasuke-kun, Kakashi-sensei told us-"

"Karen is right we all need strength if Naruto doesn't eat he'll bring us down," Sasuke said interrupting her, Sakura looked up and glared at Karen.

'How dare she think she so cool just cause she got a bell and Sasuke to agree with her idea.' Sakura thought annoyed.

As Karen was feeding Naruto an explosion of smoke appeared in front of them with dark clouds surrounding them like a tornado was going to form at any second.

"You..." Kakashi yelled with anger in his voice while glaring at the genin. Sasuke and Karen got in a fighting stance while Naruto and Sakura had a look of fear on their faces. "Pass!" Kakashi said as the smoke and dark clouds disappeared.

"We pass!? But why!?" Sakura asked confused with the sudden change.

"You four are the first to succeed. The others all did exactly as I said, and fell into every trap. Those who break the rules are scum, that true, but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum," Kakashi said.

"You know...he's...kinda...cool..." Naruto said tearfully. Sakura nodded in agreement.

"The test is over. Everyone passes! That all for today. Team seven your suites I'll commence tomorrow!" Kakashi said with a thumbs up.

"I...I did it! I did it! I'm a ninja!" Naruto cheered.

As Karen walking to her apartment she felt eyes burning into her back.

She turned around to see Sakura glaring at her. She was about to continue walking when Sakura walked over to her and punch her in the arm. "WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU ARE SMARTER THAN ME!!!"

Karen brought a hand up to her arm and glared at her. "Maybe if you train more instead of obsessing over a boy. You wouldn't be so jealous of my skill!" She shouted before walking away and heading home, not caring if she hurt Sakura's feelings.

She was just sick and tired of Sakura picking on her.
