AndieI was surprised to find Destiny at the location where the next photoshoot was taking place. "Hey Andie, how's it going?" Destiny greeted as if we were great friends, a happy grin on her face.
"Destiny?" I asked dumbly. "What are you doing here?"
"Carter is my fianceé, " She replied, holding up her hand to show an engagement ring. Carter was the new photographer, the other one had medical leave due to an injury. "And I'm his assistant."
"Oh, " Was all I could say.
Destiny took my hand and led me to another room filled with racks of clothes and a mirrored vanity in a corner. She riffled through a rack and pulled out a gorgeous dress. "Ok, get changed while I find the shoes and accessories. Once you're ready, I'll do your hair and makeup." She instructed professionally and I nodded, walking off to do as she said.
These photoshoots always leave me feeling exhausted at the end of the job and I was quite ecstatic when it was finally over. Destiny and I exchanged contact information so we could stay in contact. She was funny and witty. Spending time working closely with her, I realized I honestly liked her. I also got to know Carter and though he was too serious, he turned out to be a great guy and awesome photographer.
At long last, dad and I left the building alone, since Kyler was waiting out front in a black vehicle, with tinted windows. I was hungry so dad and I were discussing food options when we stepped out of the double glass doors. I noticed Kyler was leaning against the car, talking on his cellphone, and looking at his wristwatch. We were all so distracted by what we were doing that none of us noticed Tristan walking towards me until it was too late.
"Andie, " Tristan said my name in a breathless way that sent a shiver of delight streaking down my back.
"Tristan, what are you doing here?" I asked, fully shocked to see him. He looked terrible, sporting dark circles under his eyes, and looked like he'd lost about fifteen pounds.
"God Andie, I'm sorry I forgot your birthday!" Of all the things he could have said, that was not what I was expecting. It brought tears to my eyes to see how terrible he truly felt, it was evident in his eyes. But it didn't change how abandoned I'd felt when he chose to go out with Madison to eat on my birthday.
"Who is this guy baby girl?" Dad asked, drawing Tristan's eyes to him.
"Who am I, who are you?" Tristan asked with a frown as he seized dad up. His eyes narrowed and he got this look on his face as if he'd tasted something nasty.
I watched dad's eyebrow cock and his head tilted slightly before he replied. "Who I am is none of your business, " Dad wound an arm around my waist, then pulled me tight against his side as he turned to look at me with a smile. "Let's go, honey, I can't wait to get you alone."
I nearly groaned when I heard what dad had said and my head whipped in his direction. I didn't miss the wicked sparkle in his eyes as he smiled down at me. That's when I realized what dad was doing and I knew it was for the best if Tristan thought that the man standing next to me was a romantic interest.
"Thanks for the apology Tristan but I have to go, " Having said that, I allowed dad to start maneuvering me around Tristan.
But Tristan reached out to grab my arm, pulling us to a stop. "Please, Andie-"
That's as far as he got because in the blink of an eye Kyler had ripped Tristan's arm away from my arm and wrestled him to the ground. I gasped when I saw Tristan face down on the concrete walkway with Kyler down on one knee, holding one of his arms behind his back. "You messed with the wrong girl buddy, " Kyler growled near his ear.
