"sohn youngbyul! you're still not going to school? you lied to us." her father scolded her at the dining table and woohyuck gave her an apologetic look.
"oh my god- you rat." heloise hissed at her brother. "i didn't mean to!" he protested, stabbing his brocoli sadly when he saw that she was still angry with him.
"youngbyul, this isn't your brother's fault. if you had just gone to school like you told us you would then none of this would have happened."
no matter what the girl said to them, she couldn't get her parents to call her heloise. no matter how much she protested, they only ever said, "it's the name we gave to you as a child, that's the name we'll use with you. it's not about whether you're comfortable, it about not disrespecting your parents."
she never quite understood how wanting to be called a different name was disrespecting them, or even affecting them in the slightest.
"we can help you choose a school if that's what you're struggling with. i don't think whatever job you're doing will help you get very far in life." "that might just be the reason i enjoy it." she barely look up from the food in front of her.
"you can't waste your life away just to spite us. we'll die soon and you'll have to manage on your own. and you'll have to help hyuckie too. come on, you have a life to live." her mother kept grilling her about how she had to live her life, live a life. but heloise couldn't help but think, "what if i don't want to live this life?"
of course, she never voiced this opinion. enough people were worried about her as is. adding her parents to that list would be possibly the most annoying thing in her whole time of existence.
"hyuckie, don't you want to see your sister happy? does she seem happy with whatever she's doing right now?" "she seems fine-" "you can't use hyuck to manipulate me into doing whatever you want," she stood up from the table, "yes, guilt trip me, make me feel like im wrong for being me, tell me to kill myself or something, i don't care. but you've already said yourself that this isn't hyuck's problem so don't fucking bring him into it."
before her dad could complain at the use of curse words, she had left. she walked into her room and closed the door gently behind herself. she honestly didn't like slamming doors, and no matter how angry she was, the noise it created was still quite scary to her. she spoke to herself,
"i'm fine... i don't need friends, i don't need school, and i most certainly don't need a life as a law abiding citizen"
