Wilbur was found on philzas doorstep, his mother not in sight. So philza did the only reasonable thing and kept wilbur with him.
When wilbur was 5 he asked about his mom and phil panicked because he did not want to explain to wilbur that his mom was no where to be found.
So he told Wilbur that the fridge in their house was his mother and that was where he came from.
When mothers day came around, wilbur drew a picture at school for his "mother".
All the teachers were confused so they called philza for an explanation, he told them about where wilbur came from and how he just panicked.
From then on all the teachers made it a point to help wilbur and philza as much as they could. They even got wilbur into band for free when he was in 4th grade.
