"Mama." A small voice called. Meredith opened her eyes and saw zola and Bailey both in the bed, looking at her with big smiles. "Good morning." She whispered groggily as she looked around. Derek had to go to work today, and it was around 8.
"Where's daddy?" Zola asked. "Daddy had to work. It's just me today." She replied. "What are we doing today mama?" Zola asked as she laid down under Merediths arm, Bailey on the other side. "I think we're just gonna stay here today, zo. Mama shouldnt really go anywhere." Meredith replied
"Why?" Bailey asked. Meredith smiled. "Your baby sister is almost gonna be here. It's just safer for me to stay here in case anything happens." She explained. "Ohhh." The kids replied in somewhat understanding.
They got up out of bed and the kids scurried downstairs while Meredith waddled downstairs. Meredith was used to being a small woman, so the added weight threw her center of balance off and she usually had to brace herself to stand up.
Meredith made the kids both some cereal and herself a piece of toast. "Mama?" Zola asked. "Yeah baby?" Meredith replied as she looked at her daughter. "What baby sisters name?" She asked. Meredith smiled softly again. "We aren't sure yet, zozo. Do you have any ideas?" Meredith asked. "Hmmm....Cinderella!" Zola exclaimed. "Or Skye!" Bailey exclaimed. Skye was his favorite from paw patrol, and Cinderella was Zola's favorite princess.
Meredith chuckled. "Those are good names, you guys." She praised. The kids smiled and they ran off to go play with their toys. Meredith answered the phones when got a call. "Hi." Derek said. "Hey." She replied. "How's everything going over there?" He asked. "Good. Kids just ate breakfast. According to them we should name the baby 'Cinderella' or 'skye.'" Meredith said with a chuckle. Derek laughed through the phone at their kids antics.
"Those are great names. How are you feeling?" He asked. "I'm good." Meredith replied. "When will you be home?" She asked. "Hunts letting me off at 1, so I should be home around 1:30." Derek replied as he checked the time. "A few more hours." He added with a sigh. "Okay, I gotta go. The kids are beckoning me. I love you." Meredith said. "Be careful. I love you too." He replied as she hung up the phone.
Meredith plopped herself down in the kids playroom and played games with them. Zola requested barbies first, and then Bailey requested to play the Cars game Alex bought him.
A few hours later, Derek arrived home with food for the kids and Meredith. He smiled when he saw them all relaxing on the couch. "Hey!" Meredith exclaimed as she saw him walking in. She stood up and softly wrapped her arms around his waist, bringing him in for a tight hug. Derek did the same and kissed her forehead. "I missed you." She whispered. "I missed you too." He said as he leant forward to kiss her softly.
Two small bodies colliding with dereks legs caused his to pull away. "Daddy!" The kids squealed as they both reached their arms up. Derek bent down and lifted them both into his arms. "Were you guys good for mama?" Derek asked seriously with a smile. "We was so good! Right bails?" Zola replied enthusiastically. "Yeah! We good, right mama?" Bailey asked.
"You guys were very good." Meredith replied with a chuckle. "We get a cookie now daddy?" Zola asked with a heart breaking smile. Derek smiled and nodded sheepishly. "Yeah, let's go." Derek said as he carried the kids into the kitchen and grabbed them both a chocolate chip cookie. "You bribed our kids to be good?" Meredith asked, amused. "I wanted them to be easy for you." Derek replied.
"They were." She assured as she watched Derek talk to the kids. Derek was the best husband and father a woman good ask for. They may have had some bumps in the road, but they persisted and got to there they wanted to be. And that was now. Everything was going good in their life.
"I got some food for us." Derek pointed out as he took the lunch of the bag. He got Meredith her favorite, chicken Alfredo, and got the kids their normal spaghetti. Derek of course got himself a salad. "Tank you!" The kids yelled, causing Derek to chuckle. "Thank you Derek." Meredith said.
Derek kissed her on the forehead and sat down next to her and dug in. "Have a good day?" Meredith asked curiously. "I had an MVC and a craniotomy. Wasn't very exciting. They really need to hire someone else in Nelson's place." Derek said. Nelson was about to get fired, but instead, he managed to avoid it by taking a leave of absence. But Derek would not let him set foot in the hospital again after what he did to his wife.
"Who Nelson?" Bailey asked. "Nelson is one of our coworkers." Meredith replied. "Why you no like him?" Zola asked interestedly. Meredith sighed. "Nelson made a mistake and hurt your mama. But she's okay." Derek replied. "Mama okay?" Bailey asked, worried as a toddler can get. "I'm okay bails." Meredith replied as she ruffled his light blonde hair.
For the rest of the day, Meredith, Derek, Bailey, and Zola all hung out together as a family. They played games, and finished the night off with some popcorn and a move. "I love you." Meredith whispered sleepily. "I love you too." He replied.
