I wake back up and am so relieved to see that Adonis is still here. I embrace this moment and look up at him.
He looks perfect. His long eyelashes flutter slowly as if he's having a vivid dream. His black hair is tousled about as his chest rises up and down. His button up shirt is slowly unbuttoned and I see the chain of a necklace poking out.
I slowly try to pull it out of shirt without waking him when he grabs my hand, his eyes still closed.
"What are you doing little one?" He asks me, his morning voice sounding sexier than ever.
"I just wanted to see your necklace," I saw in more of a whisper.
"Another time," he says and pulls me closer to his body.
I giggle as I climb on top of him and rest my head ok his chest.
...
The rest of the day was spent trying to get Adonis to reach Dimitrios. He confessed that in all honesty he was skeptical as well that he hadn't heard from him since they left.
We ended up going into a clearing in the forest so Adonis could potentially reach Dimitrios better.
He tries for the 7th time and fails again, "Maybe we should take a break," I suggest. It's clear he's angry with himself.
"No I need to get this," he shakes his head and puts his two hands out in front of him creating fire again.
The flames sit floating on both hands as he closes his eyes trying to gather strength from the fire. His eyes peak open looking at me before shutting again.
"Wait a minute," I say and he stops. "Are you taking it easy because you're afraid of hurting me?"
He doesn't say anything and I know my answer, "Adonis we have been through this. You aren't going to hurt me, that was one time and you were mad. You need to move past that," I say and put a hand on his face.
"But what if I do hurt you again? I don't think I'd be able to live with myself," he says taking me off guard.
"You won't Adonis, I know it but I need you to not worry and do this because if something happens to Dimitrios we are both doomed."
He nods his head and closes his eyes again and reaches his hands out. He takes a deep breathe before opening his eyes again.
"Athanasia?" He says my name in a tone I've never heard from him. It's practically nervous if I hear it right.
I look up at him, "Yeah, what's wrong?"
"I will never forgive myself for hurting you and I know that you're much too good for someone like me and if you say no I will understand but I want to move past everything. I will spend as long as it takes making it up to you, if that's eternity so be it."
He face is so readable. He looks so genuine and innocent and I smile.
I walk over to him and gently kiss his cheek, "You don't owe me that long."
I turn away from him and walk to the other side of the clearing, "Don't think you got out of anything just because you're being nice though, I'm still waiting for you to reach Dimitrios."
He shakes his head and smiles before closing his eyes again and holding his hands out. The flames grow more vibrant this time and move as if trying to tell a story.
Ember lines start to run their way along Adonis's body as his eyes stay closed. He looks like his whole body is vibrating and I feel myself start to grow worried, I don't want to interrupt his train of thought but I don't want him to get hurt when suddenly the flames burst into thin air.
He opens his eyes and the black slowly retracts out.
"They were captured."
