Maranda had been trying to call the police ever since I got hear but one told me close to this time as all of her attempts had failed.
Recently though I had been a part of the plan to contact the police.
It would usually be that Mum would be in the room and I would be there to distract her while Maranda tried to reach for the phone.
Usually, though Maranda would get caught and she would apologize to me repeatedly but I was just happy that she cared enough to put herself in harm's way for me.
Thinking back on it now it was what led up to what happened next.
