Chapter 13

Narrators POV

3 Years Ago

Ellie wanders through the empty hospital. Looking for any clues that might help her. She goes through the pediatrics wing. Down the corridor is just a desolate area of rooms. Ellie checks through each room, hoping to find anything.

"There must be something? Why did everyone leave?"

Ellie enters a room and spots some documents. "What is this?"

The growth has clearly mutated. Let's see if the test results corroborate our theory. This is big.

"Is that me?" Ellie questions after seeing a photo of a bitten arm. "What could this mean?" Ellie ponders the question

She sees a tape recorder and grabs it. She clicks on the play button.

...Most people have left already. I don't know which group I am going to join. I was one of the ones that wanted to go after the smugglers and the young girl. They said...Even if we found her, or by some miracle found someone else that's immune, it would make no difference cause the only person who could develop the vaccine is dead...

Ellie sits outside the hospital, replaying the ending of the tape. Many thoughts running through her head. The sun is clearly setting already but she is unaffected by it.

Ellie looks up when she hears horses coming in her direction. She stands up and sees Y/N and Jungkook.

"Ellie," Jungkook shouts. He gets off his horse and grabs her in a tight hug. "What were you thinking? Running off like that in the middle of the night with just a note? Talk to me."

Ellie pushes him away and looks at both of them. In a deep breath, she says, "Tell me what happened here."

Y/N and Jungkook look at each other and back at her. "If you lie to me one more time... I'm gone. You will never see me again. But, if you tell me the truth then I will return to Jackson. No matter what it is."

Jungkook takes a deep breath and Y/N hesitates.

"Please, just say it. Jungkook... Y/N..."

"Making a vaccine would have killed you," Y/N says while looking down. "So we both stopped them."

Ellie, in shock, starts crying. "Oh my God," Y/N tries to console her but Ellie jerks away from her. "Don't you f*cking touch me. I will go back, but I am done with you guys. Both of you guys."

Ellie storms off. Back to Jackson, leaving Y/N and Jungkook behind.

"N/N..."

Tears fall down her face. "She hates us, JK... she hates us." He pulls her in a hug. As the woman cries into the older mans chest.

"We will fix this... somehow. This is our mess. We both did this to her. Not the others. We will fix this together."

Seattle Day 3

Ellie's POV

I get up, looking around. "I must have fallen asleep," I say as I get myself dressed.

I get out of the dressing room and make my way backstage. "Dina? Y/N?" I shout out as I make my way to the main stage. "Where is everyone?" I jump off the stage and run towards the exit. I open the door and see Jesse sitting on a chair in front of Dina, who is currently asleep. Jesse looks at me and gets up.

I follow him out of the area. We walk up the second floor of the theater and look through the giant windows that are designed in front of the building. Rain falls and can be heard.
