"You're up early," Kelsey mentioned as she sat up in bed, watching Flip get dressed. "What time is it?"

"6:30." He replied, pulling his blue long-sleeved shirt over his head.

"Is everything ok?"

"Yeah, everything is perfect." He said walking over and giving her a gentle kiss. "I just figured I would pick up some coffee instead of making it today. Maybe even surprise you with breakfast, seeing as you can't have coffee."

"I can have coffee. Just make sure it's a decaf." Kelsey said with a shrug of her shoulders.

"I could, but then you are going to get all upset because you won't get that caffeine high." He replied with raised eyebrows.

"Ok...what about a doughnut with chocolate and sprinkles?"

"You hate doughnuts." Flip said with a laugh.

"Na uh. Not today I don't. In fact, I would love to have a doughnut for breakfast." She said with a smile.

"Ok then. Chocolate doughnut with sprinkles." Flip replied, making a mental note, "I shouldn't be gone too long, so please try and stay in bed unless you absolutely have to get up. Noah should be asleep for at least another hour." He made his way towards the bedroom door. "I have my phone on me, so if you need anything call me. I'll come right home. I love you."

"Hey!" Kelsey called out to him. His face peeked around the doorframe with an attentive look on his face. She pointed towards the black arm sling that had been thrown carelessly on their dresser after they had come home from the funeral. "If I have to stay in bed because it's 'doctor's orders, then you have to wear that. Plus, you know you'll regret it if you don't."

Flip rolled his eyes and walked back into the room picking up the sling and putting it on. "Yes, Ma'am." He muttered.

She was right though, he would regret it if he didn't wear it. It was bad enough that his hand still hurt the way it did, even in the cast. He didn't need it to swell up again. That would just make it all worse. He was just too stubborn to care most of the time.

"I love you!" She said watching him walk back out of the room.

The coffee shop wasn't very large. Just a small little place on the street corner of a busy intersection. Flip had gone to the counter first, ordering his cup of coffee, the chocolate sprinkled doughnut, and some doughnut holes to take back with him for Kelsey and Noah. He could see Ronnie sitting in the back corner, nursing on his own cup of the dark bitter liquid.

"Hey..." Flip said taking a seat in the empty seat across from Ronnie.

"Hey," Ronnie replied, looking up from his drink.

"Kelsey knows I came out for coffee, nothing else. You've got about 15 minutes to fill me in on what you texted me yesterday."

"Zoey knows about the same..." Ronnie answered dropping his head. "I swear to you, I had my own issued vest with me when the chief called me to go to that sting. I always keep it in my locker at work. When I got there it was gone, and my lock had been cut. Ron told me not to worry about it, said he had an extra. I never would have taken it if I had known."

"You don't have to explain yourself, Ronnie. No one blames you. Ron knew what he was doing, he knew what the consequences would be."

"Flip, I saw the chief enter that building before shit popped off. Ron did too. I'm thinking Ron was a target." Ronnie continued.
