twilight lightning

Dark green leaves fall through the night,
glide gently in the lively air,
sparkle in the yellow light
of gloomy street lamps everywhere.

Lights turn on across the street
as weathered plants in narrow front yards
tremble under the freshness of the night
and gently let themselves be carried by the wind.

Humble houses proudly stand with all their might
defending their property from this violent blast.
Hearing branches cracking in the distance,
trees losing their majesty without their delicate adornment.

Light raindrops dripping become a squall of rain,
Letting the leaves and bark of trees already wet, drowned
shaken out with gusty whips and blown by the breeze,
and suddenly,
a flash,
the storm.
