The ride home was quiet and the only sound that could be heard was from the roaring of my car. I had been so distracted by memories from the past lately, that by the end of the day my mind and body was tired. It did not take long to get home since it was pretty late in the night and most people had already retired to the comfort of their homes. I tried convincing Sean to spend the night at my place but just like any other time I had asked, he declined my offer. He always said he had to get home to someone and only a few of us knew who that person was.

Sean had been engaged to Clara back in our college days and when we got to our junior year, they got married. I had met Sean and a few of my friends and his in a class we had together. Our circle became so close that even after graduating we still kept in touch. Every one of our friends had told Sean that it was crazy for him to get married so young. Some of them even tried to convince him to at least wait until we graduated and got jobs. All attempts were in vain since he was pretty determined to get married to Clara. Apparently, they had known each other back from their diaper days and started dating in high school.

Not many people knew of their marriage since it was a small occasion of close family and friends. After marriage, Clara became part of our group too since they were never apart. I gotta say that Sean was pretty bold for taking such a life changing decision and being so sure of it. As for me the thought of marriage itself scared me shitless. I did not want to end up like my parents or their friends. Most of the people I looked up to growing up were either in loveless or arranged marriages. I guess that made me not think or want to get committed to someone else.

Sean and Clara became the siblings I never had. Clara was an annoying little sister who was always there to annoy me. We had not met in quite a while since I moved here. I missed Clara annoying me. I knew it was hard for her to go out now since she was five months pregnant with their second child. I was planning on visiting them soon but Sean told me about plans for a baby shower and I decided to go then. I had zero experience with children and those kind of things and was wondering what I would buy. I had the money to buy the whole store but was still undecided since I didn't even know the gender.

Both Sean and Clara had decided to keep the gender of their baby a secret even for themselves in case it slipped. They wanted it to be a surprise so they asked their doctor to keep the results sealed. Their eldest son Chase was the cutest and most charming baby with his green eyes that he got from his mom. He was quite the mamas boy and I couldn't help but think that he and Brad would get along just fine. They could even become best friends. Sean dropped me off and headed home not wanting to keep his wife waiting. The pregnancy hormones and moods were not pleasing at all. Sometimes Clara would call Sean while we were at work asking for the weirdest things or crying for the silliest reason.

I got into the elevator and couldn't wait to get inside my penthouse and sleep off the exhaustion I was feeling. As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted by silence and I couldn't help but wish that I had someone waiting for me at home. I headed upstairs and took a shower after which I changed into more comfortable clothes. Tomorrow was a weekend and I did not have to wake up early. That was the best part about being a boss. You did not respond to anyone so you could make decisions on your own and go to work whenever you wanted. Being the boss also meant that I had to work harder than everyone else and therefore I work even during the weekend.

I would be working from home tomorrow and later in the day, I had planned to go buy some baby gifts for Clara and Sean. With that thought in my head, I laid down in my bed and as soon as my head dropped on the pillow, I was engulfed into a deep sleep.

Kira's POV

The week that followed after Josh appeared was pretty busy for me. I had not seen him again after he left my house that day. The week with Brandon was fun and I really enjoyed it though I had a lot of things to do. I went with him at work and I would leave him in the play room in my office whenever I had a meeting to attend or when I was stepping out. I was always worried since he loved roaming around and therefore I would ask my secretary to keep an eye on him. The week went by pretty quick and I could not help but be sad since Laila and Jake were coming back from their vacation. This meant that I had to return Brad by the end of the weekend. I couldn't help but wish I had my own baby but it was too soon.

I was too young to hold such a big responsibility like raising a baby. At this point in my career, I was sure I would not have the time to work and spend time with the baby. I always said that when the time came and I became a parent, my child would be my number one priority. Work would always have to come second. Love and attention was always the most important thing for a child and not money. Brad was also pretty sad that he had to go back. It was not that he did not love or miss his parents but with them, they were strict with him and did not give in to his every demand. As for me, I always fell for his requests whenever I looked at his pouty face. I have to admit that I spoilt him too much.

After driving home from the office, we had decided to go to the movies tomorrow and later on to the park. We ordered dinner since it was pretty late and I was too tired from work to cook. Afterwards, we retired to our rooms and slept. In the middle of the night I heard the door to my room open and I guessed it was Brad. I was a light sleeper so any sort of movement or sound would wake me up immediately. I switched on the bedside night light and saw Brad standing at the door with his blue blanket. It was a birthday gift from his grandparents and he never slept without it.

"Baby....what are you doing up so late at night," I asked.

"Can I sleep with you today?" he responded looking down fidgeting with his fingers. His parent had been against him sleeping in their room so that he could get used to his room. They only entertained it a few times when he would wake up at night. Laila's parents died in a car accident a few years ago when he was a baby. They were bringing him up to Laila's after the weekend visit. On the way back, they were hit by a truck. Brad was too small to remember it but he had nightmares about it.

"Did you have a nightmare cupcake, come here common, come to me," I said in a cooing tone seeing the big drops of tears on his face. It was painful to watch and if there was anything to be done to protect him from the nightmares I would have done it a long time ago. He climbed on my bed and got under the covers. He laid his head on my chest and closed his eyes. I wiped the tears on his face with my fingers and ruffled his hair softly. I sang him the cradle lullaby and he was asleep in no time and it didn't take long before I did too.

Lullaby and good night,

With roses bedight.

Creep into thy bed,

There pillow thy head.

If God will thou shalt wake,

When the morning doth break.

If God will thou shalt wake,

When the morning doth break.

Lullaby and good night,

Those blue eyes close tight.

Bright angels are near,

So sleep without fear.

They will guard thee from harm,

With fair dreamland's sweet charm.

They will guard thee from harm,

With fair dreamland's sweet charm
