"you know, korra's been asking to start her waterbending training a lot lately."

"has she now?" katara answered.

tonraq laughed and set down his tea. "every second. i heard her talking about that in her sleep the other day. she's certainly an enthusiastic one."

"then let's start! these days have been getting a bit...repetitive."

senna held back a smirk. "if you meant boring, then yes."

"mommy?"

korra rubbed her eyes and held her blanket.

"who are you guys talking to?"

she gasped.

"katara!" she ran to the elderly woman and attacked her in a hug.

"woah! you weren't wrong about that enthusiasm of hers." katara smiled. she was so similar to aang but so different.

"am i starting training with you yet?" the 6 year old jumped up and down.

"korra." tonraq warned.

senna hit him on the arm. "oh, lighten up 'raq! as long as she's with katara, she'll be fine."

he stared at his empty teacup.

"i suppose."

"yay! katara come on!" korra grabbed the woman's hand and led her toward the door.

"don't you think you should suit up first?" katara said with an eyebrow raised.

"whyyyy? i'm a firebender so i could warm myself up! can we just go already?"

katara stood her ground.

"not until you put on your parka. and your boots. you don't want to catch hippo-thermia, do you?"

korra squealed and threw on her coat. and her shoes, but on the wrong feet.

"i'm ready! let's go already!" korra grabbed the woman's hand and led her outside.

"ooo! can you teach me how to make those big waves? i think i saw deska and esna do it but i can't remember."

katara chuckled. "i think you mean eska and desna. and sorry not sorry, but it would take a year or two of training for you to know how to make one. your cousins have been training f-"

"korra?" the woman stared at the little girl, who was practically frozen. "korra? korra, are you alright? tonraq! senna? spirits, where are those two?"

suddenly, korra turned around, her eyes glowing for the very first time, as snow swirled around her.

katara panicked and tried to reach for her, but to no avail. but then, just as soon as it started, the mini blizzard stopped. and the figure that stood in place of korra smiled at her.

"aang?"

"hey, sweetie."

she couldn't believe it. it was...aang. but 20 years old and in spirit form. woohoo?

"how are you...?"

"trust me, i don't know either." katara walked forward and attempted to hug him, only hugging air instead. she frowned. 'can't hug spirits. noted.'

"i see you listened to my last decree."

"what do you mean?"

"you're teaching the next avatar waterbending. remember what i told you?"

she smiled up at him. "so you've just been waiting here for me to do it?"

"maybe..."

aang's eyes widened and he turned around, his mouth moving but no words coming out.

"okay my love, look. i can't stay here for much longer. but i came here to say one thing."

"what is it? why do you have to go?" she asked, getting sad that he was leaving so soon.

"just wait okay? we'll be reunited soon, i promise."

she half-heartedly laughed. "how soon would now be?"

"way too soon." he turned around again before turning back to her. "crap. i have to go, katara. i'll be waiting. i love you."

he leaned forward and cupped her face, leaning in. ahe felt the slightest bit of pressure on her cheeks and lips and smiled. but it vanished.

she opened her eyes and saw the snow swirling again, before a little water tribe girl walked right out of it, rubbing her eyes.

"what was that? was that some type of waterbending move or something?"

"no, no. but this is." katara waved her hand, sending snow into the side of korra's face.

korra harshly wiped it off, but accidentally waterbent in doing so. "HEY!"

the girl opened her eyes to see her sifu dramatically collapsed on the ground covering her face.

"whoops."

katara smirked and waterbent the snow to the side.

"spirits, how soon is now?"
