3rd person pov

"hey! bumi, don't eat that!"

"okay..."

aang sighed.

"you guys have all signed the cards, right?" he asked the kids.

they all said something in agreement, with baby suyin as the exception.

"then let's go!" sokka exclaimed, picking suyin up and following lin to the room he shared with toph.

"come on izumi. let's go." zuko followed izumi as she held the tray for her mom, very cautiously as she tried not to drop it.

aang triple-checked to make sure everything was perfect.

"wait...where's tenzin?"

tenzin came into view, holding one of the flowers that was previously in the vase on katara's tray.

"flowers aren't as good as i thought they'd be."

aang sighed with a smile on his face.

he walked with bumi, kya and tenzin to his room.

the sun was just barely peeking through the clouds so it was still a little dark.

the quartet quietly opened the bedroom door and walked inside.

aang mouthed to them to give katara her breakfast before leaving the room to meet up with the other guys.

"wait...how do we wake her up?" bumi whispered.

"i know." kya said.

she then started singing a lullaby her mom would sing to her when she was little and that woke her up within a minute.

kya smiled and handed her mom the tray.

katara squinted. "kya?" she looked around more. "bumi? tenzin?"

then it registered in her head that it was mother's day.

"awww! you guys did this for me? you shouldn't have." she said with a swelled heart and prideful smile.

she moved the tray and leaned in to hug her kids.

"well, you deserve it mom."

"spirits, i love you guys."

"i have to do it alone?"

"yup. when you're done, bring her to the living room."

and with that, zuko closed the door and left izumi to wake her mom up.

she looked around for something to do. then her gaze landed on the window.

yikes. it's still something?

she put the tray down at the foot of the bed and opened the blinds.

mai shifted in her sleep and drowsily opened her eyes.

"izumi? what are you doing here so early?"

she picked up the tray and handed it to her mom.

"well, it is mother's day so..."

"it is? i thought that was next week."

mai sat up and took the tray.

"thanks, sweetheart."

she kissed izumi's forehead, giving her an overbearing hug reserved just for moments like this.

"no problem, mom."

he really tried to eat that flower?

"yup. apparently it didn't taste as good as he thought it would."

"hmm..."

"ooh i know!" lin perked up.

she set her mom's tray down on the floor and walked over to where she slept.

without giving a second thought, she shook toph awake.

toph turned away and put her pillow over her head.

"ughh...it's too early for this..."

"but mom, don't you want your food?"
lin raised an eyebrow.

"food, huh?" toph said sitting up and attempting to grab su.

"it's mother's day for a reason!"

"..."

"it's what?"

"mother's day...?"

"i thought it was april." she said while inhaling her breakfast.

lin moved the tray out the way and gave her mom a bear hug.

"whoa! easy there." toph said with a smile.

she sighed, relishing in the warm embrace.

"i love you two. so damn much."

toph leaned closer to the 7 year old.

"and don't tell your father this, but i like you guys just a little more than him."

"you really had to send her in alone?"

"it was for...effect!"

mai chuckled.

"idiot."

"at least you didn't get the crap shaken out of you."

"it's not like you would've woken up if i did anything else.." lin muttered.

katara sat down next to aang. "you guys look like you're hiding something."

sokka answered her. "maybe, maybe not."

"don't worry, it's a surprise~"
