1 month later
Betty took great heaving breaths as her chest rose and fell, giggling as she saw her husband get up, pulling on a pair of boxers with a smug smirk.
"Now THAT was a wild ride. Pun intended." He chuckled, sitting back down on top of the covers, next to his wife, crossing his legs over the other. He rubbed his hand over his wife's stomach as she rested her legs against the wall, her torso wrapped up in the bed sheets.
"You're an ass!" Betty laughed. He leaned down and kissed her before they were interrupted by a phone ringing.
"Ugh!" Jughead groaned, making Betty laugh. "I think that's mine." He murmured, reaching over to the nightstand to grab his phone as Betty kicked her legs against the wall, tapping her fingers against Jughead's hand that was still on her stomach. "It's my dad."
"Hey dad!" Jughead spoke down the phone, putting the phone on loudspeaker.
"Hey, boy! What are you up to?" He asked.
"Not much, just finished trying to get my wife pregnant." He spoke, nonchalantly. Betty's head shot up, her neck straining with the position she was in.
"Forsythe!" Betty yelled, whilst both of the men laughed.
"Well, good luck to you." FP chuckled. "I won't take much of your time so you can get back to it." He said.
"Jeez dad! It's fine when I make jokes but you're too old." Jughead scolded.
"Whatever. I was just wondering if..."
2 months later
Betty was lounging on the couch before Jughead walked over with a glass of orange juice - no more caffeine in the Jones household. After a few months of trying without changing their lifestyle, they decided to make a few tweaks - no alcohol, no smoking, no caffeine and lots of prenatal vitamins. Jughead lifted Betty's legs and put them in his lap as he took a sip of his drink.
"Any plans for today, Betts?" He asked, rubbing his hands up and down her shin.
"Yeah, V and Arch wanna go for lunch at Pops, you up for it?" She spoke, biting into an apple, eyes on the TV.
"Sure...are you?" He murmured. Betty had been having body aches for the last few days and they suspected it was the beginning of the flu that's going around her students.
"I think so. It's just lunch, right?" She said, turning to face him, giving him a small smile.
"Right." He replied, leaning over to leave a kiss on her lips before walking into the bedroom to get ready for the day.
2 hours later
"B!!" Veronica exclaimed, seeing her friend walking through the door that they'd walked through a million times. She ran and pulled Betty into a bone crushing hug.
"Mother of god!!!" Betty yelled, causing Veronica to pull back, looking at her friend who was holding her hands protectively to her breasts. "Fuck! Oh my god, that killed!! Jesus!" She screamed.
"Betts?" Jughead placed his hand on her back gently, in concern.
"God above!" She continued shouting.
"I'm so sorry, B! I didn't realise that I was that rough!" Veronica rushed.
"No it's not your fault." Betty wheezed, still bent over slightly, causing a scene. "They're just...sensitive." Betty finished.
"Jughead!" Veronica chastised.
"What?" Jughead exclaimed.
"No, no, no, V! That's not why. My body has just been so achy recently, but it's okay." Betty explained, blushing slightly.
"Thanks for thinking that highly of me though, Veronica." Jughead smirked, whilst Betty whacked his chest with the back of her hand.
"I've heard of the damage you can do, Jones. Mind giving Archie a few lessons?" She smirked. Jughead froze. "I'm kidding! I mean he may not know exactly where everything is per say but he'll learn. Come sit!" She finished, leaving Betty sniggering behind her hand. They all sat around the booth as Archie made his way over to the booth from the bathroom.
"Hey guys!" He said.
"Shhh Archie. I'm talking!" Veronica turned to look at him disgustedly.
"What? But no one was talking when I got her-" He spoke.
"Yeah, well I am now!" Veronica interrupted. Archie just sat back in his seat, sipping on the already half empty glass from earlier.
"I'm sorry if we were late, I-" Betty began.
"Oh it's no problem. Trying for a baby sounds like fun, I don't blame you." Betty turned bright red at the assumption. "So your body aches, huh?" Veronica asked.
"Yeah. I think it's just some kind of flu that my students had." Betty waved off.
"Are you sure you're not...you know...knocked up?" Veronica hesitated. Betty sighed and reached for Jughead's hand.
"Uh, no. She, uh, she took a test a few days ago and uh..." Jughead nodded solemnly.
"I'm sorry, B. I didn't want to make you upset or anything." Veronica apologised.
"No! No, it's okay. Honestly. It's all a part of the experience, I guess. It sucks, but it's life." Betty assured.
"Well maybe you should go see your doctor about the achy thing?" Veronica suggested.
"I went last week actually. I got a blood test yesterday and then we'll see from there. I don't think it's that serious though, so don't panic!" Betty said, seeing her friend frown in fear.
"But B, what if-" Veronica started.
"No! No what ifs, no worrying. I've had enough of that with my husband already." Betty joked, giving Jughead a sly smile. He rolled his eyes in retaliation.
2 days later
Betty had received a phone call from her doctor that morning saying that he wanted Betty to come into his office today to give her the results of her blood tests. Betty had had a constant nagging fear in the back of her mind for the rest of the day, doing anything she could to distract her mind from her later appointment. So many questions were running through her mind, the what ifs that her husband had been reeling off ever since she started feeling sick. Betty sat bouncing her leg in the waiting room, clutching onto Jughead's hand, nestling her face into his shoulder. There was a blur of sound ringing in her ears.
"Mrs Elizabeth Jones?" The receptionist called out. It was as if Betty's head had just come above water. She could suddenly hear so clearly and loudly. Her heartbeat was flickering in her ears. They rose up, slowly, both making their way to the door of the office, Jughead knocking gently before making their way in and sitting on the armchairs in front of Dr Patel's oak desk.
"Good afternoon Mr and Mrs Jones. Elizabeth, are you comfortable with having your husband here for your results?" Dr Patel asked.
"Of course, whatever you can say to me, you can say in front of him." Betty said, face determined, before turning to her husband and giving him a soft smile.
"Is this bad news, doc?" Jughead asked, eyes pleading, terrified for his wife.
"It very much depends on your situation. It's a personal preference." Dr Patel explained.
"What do you mean by that?" Betty asked, confused.
"Mrs Jones, I'd like to talk to you about your method of contraception, if that's alright?" Dr Patel asked.
"Well, I'm not currently using anything. We're trying." Betty revealed. A smile crept up on the doctor's face.
"Well that clears that up then." Dr Patel said, lightly tapping the desk with his palms. "Mr and Mrs Jones...congratulations, you're expecting." Dr Patel smiled.
"W-what?" Betty asked, wide eyed. Jughead just sat in shock, his mouth open slightly, eyes fixated on the man in front of him. "But I took a test last week. It was negative, I'm not pregnant." Betty said, tears in her eyes.
"False negatives happen, they're uncommon but they happen. From the results, it seems that you're about 12 weeks. Congratulations mom and dad. If you have any questions that you can't find the answers to in these leaflets, you can call me anytime. I'll give you guys a minute." He said, giving the couple a few pamphlets before leaving the room. Both Betty and Jughead sat in shock for a few minutes with tears falling down their cheeks. Jughead is the first one to break the silence, standing up and crouching down in front of his wife, rubbing his hands up and down her thighs.
"Betts...?" He asked, swiping a tear from his face. She looked down, into his eyes, a huge smile growing on her face as her laugh rippled through the room. Jughead reached his hand out and touched his wife's belly, causing Betty's hand to join his.
"We're pregnant. We're finally pregnant." Betty said, breathlessly. She stood up, her husband following and wrapped each other in a tight hug. Jughead held onto his wife whilst looking up and mouthing a silent 'thank you' to God. The God that he'd never believed in until now. They pulled away from their embrace, foreheads resting against each other's, laughing gently, smiles never leaving their faces.
"We're gonna have a baby." Jughead whispered, as if he couldn't believe it. "I'm gonna be a daddy!" He chuckled.
"The best daddy." Betty spoke softly, caressing his cheek. "I feel like our future is flashing before our eyes right now." Betty giggled, burying her face into his neck. Jughead rubbed his hands up and down her back, before pulling one slowly to her stomach, rubbing gently.
"Right? I can't wait for you to start showing. It's gonna be crazy. We're going to be able to see our child growing inside of you." He said, dumbfounded. "Can you imagine how excited everyone's gonna be when we tell them?" He smiled.
"About that...I wanna keep this our little secret for a while..." Betty smiled.
"How long is a while?" He questioned.
"Well..." Betty started, rubbing her hands up and down his arms, where his hands rested on her hips. "I'm about 3 months... It's most likely that I won't start showing until I'm four months along so I want to wait until I start showing to tell people. Especially Veronica because I really want to do a big reveal for her considering she has been there for me throughout our fertility struggles." Betty spoke softly.
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." Jughead said, a giant grin on his face, before his face lifted. "What about the premier of the movie she's organised for us all to go to next month?" Jughead suggested.
"God, I hope our baby has your brain. You're a genius!" Betty giggled, her husband joining in before bringing his lips to hers, marvelling into the new life that they had made.
1 month later
Betty flattened her dress at her thighs before bringing her hands up to cradle the little bump that had blossomed in the last month, smiling gently.
"I think I just forgot how to breathe." Jughead spoke, eyes devouring his pregnant wife as he leaned against the doorframe, his bow tie loose around the collar of his tux.
"And I don't think I've ever been as turned on as I am right now." Betty breathed, with a wink. "And I'm not just saying that. My pregnancy hormones are out of control!" Betty complained. Jughead came to stand behind his wife, resting his hands on her bump, she gently placed hers on top.
"You're telling me." He replied with a suggestive smirk.
30 minutes later
By the time that the couple arrived at the event, Veronica was racing towards Betty to give her a hug. The last thing that Betty wanted was for Veronica to find out that she was pregnant from feeling her bump, which she has tried so hard to cover with a pashmina. Jughead jumped to his wife's rescue, by indulging Veronica with a hug before she could reach Betty.
"Betts is still a little sore and so no hugs for her." He spoke, firmly.
"That's not fair! You're just hogging her all for yourself." Veronica whined. Jughead rolled his eyes before they all made their way into the theatre, Betty and Veronica trailing behind, chatting.
2 hours later
At the end of the film, the audience gathered in the bar area for drinks, however Veronica had organised a special VIP area for the four of them.
"You guys not drinking tonight?" Archie asked, eying the sodas on the table in front of them.
"Nope. Trying, remember?" Jughead quickly excused. Betty felt a beam of pride, she knew she'd married him for a reason.
"Right, right." Archie dismissed, suddenly feeling uncomfortable at the thought of his best friends 'trying' for a baby.
"So, B, I don't mean to bring this up now, but I haven't been sleeping. Do you have the results of your blood test yet?" Veronica practically begged.
"Actually, we did." Betty spoke with a somber tone, trying to trick the couple.
"Oh God." Veronica muttered.
"Jug, do you want to tell them?" Betty turned to her husband, a sneaky smirk on her face just for him.
"Okay...well...Betty and I are going to have a baby." Jughead spoke casually as if it meant nothing taking a sip from his drink.
"Okay so what does tha-" Veronica stopped herself, only just registering his words, her jaw dropping, mirroring her husband's actions.
"Guys?" Betty asked. Neither of them reacted.
"Why don't you show them our little miracle, Betts?" Jughead suggested helping his wife remove her pashmina before laying his hands gently on her bump.
"Surprise!" Betty announced. Veronica blinked and stuttered.
"I-I...oh my god!" She screeched, eyes filling with tears.
"I mean I knew you guys were trying but this still seems like such a shock!" Archie explained.
"Right?" Veronica agreed. "But I thought you said that you took a test and that it was negative?" Veronica questioned.
"I did but apparently it was a false negative." Betty spoke sarcastically, motioning down to her stomach.
"Oh my god I haven't even hugged you!" Veronica seemed to snap out of whatever funk that she was in and stood up to hug her best friend, smoothing a hand over her stomach after.
"Wow..." Veronica whispered, eyes glassy.
"Congrats, bro." Archie spoke, as he embraced Jughead.
By the time that all congratulations had been said and everyone was settled, a new round of drinks had arrived.
"So, who are the godparents?" Veronica asked, pouring her glass of champagne.
"As if you don't know already." Betty giggled, grasping onto her husband's hand on her shoulder.
