Jughead felt himself shiver as he saw his fiancé talking to one of Veronica's interns at her company's opening night that they had been dragged out for. He gripped his glass of champagne slightly tighter before he felt a light smack on his back, turning around in time to see his father walking in front of him with Alice in tow.
"Hey, Jug. You looked a little lonely, stood at the bar on your own. Thought you might want some company." Jughead looked straight past his father's eyeline to this guy's hand resting on Betty's shoulder as she laughed at something he had just said. Jughead's eye twitched as his mouth scrunched up and his finger tapped his glass. "...or not?" FP asked, sensing that Jughead wasn't in the right frame of mind. "Is everything okay, boy?"
"Yeah. Just fine, dad." He spoke, sharply, clearly not fine. FP followed his eyesight to where Jughead was looking.
"Ahhh. I see. Never pegged you as a jealous guy, to be honest." He raised his eyebrows and shook his head as he faced Alice.
"Are you kidding? Do you remember when my nephew came home to visit and hugged Betty and Jughead looked like he wanted to knock him out before he realised that he was her cousin." They both laughed along. Jughead was completely ignoring everything that they were saying, eyes focused on Betty, her black and white polka dot mini dress stopped mid-thigh and showed off her toned, sun kissed legs, leading to her silver strappy heels. Her hair draped down in soft waves over the rough leather that was hanging elegantly from her shoulders. His serpent jacket. His eyes travelled to her hand that was holding her champagne and on her ring finger, sparkled a beautiful diamond engagement ring that he had given to her a little over a year ago now. It was stunning. The second he saw it, he knew that it was Betty Cooper's ring. So he bought it and he proposed to her the next week on holiday in the Maldives. Jughead's book had certainly given them the opportunity to be able to go on lavish holidays and splash money on things like rings and the expensive shoes that Jughead was wearing with his suit that Betty had somehow managed to convince him to wear for tonight. Jughead couldn't take it anymore, but he didn't want Betty to think that he was paranoid so he just messaged her from where he was, 10 feet away from him.
J: Tell him to stop touching you
He pocketed his phone again, but then felt bad for how abrupt he was and messaged her again.
J: I love you.
He looked up from his phone and tried to get involved with the conversation that Alice and FP were having, whilst still keeping an eye out to see if Betty had received the message. Before long, they were both startled out of their conversation by Betty's phone ringing. Jughead could hear Betty say something along the lines of 'sorry about that' before lifting up her phone, illuminating the now confused expression on her face. She turned to face Jughead after she had processed what she had read. She looked down to her phone before pocketing it and Jughead felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, seeing a new message from Betty.
B: I love you too, honey ❤️
Jughead sighed, realising that she had completely ignored his previous message.
"Alright, Jug. Something is clearly bothering you, I know you're jealous but what's there to be jealous about?" FP persisted.
"I just...I always get so nervous when she's around other gu-...I don't know why I'm telling you guys this. I'm just being insecure and she's given me no reason to be." Jughead spoke, shaking his head.
"Boy, just trust her." FP said, as simply as possible.
"I do trust her dad. I trust her with my life. I just don't trust them. They're pigs and they all only want one thing and it makes me feel sick. She's been through shit before with assholes being far too 'friendly' for her liking and it hurts her. I just...hate it." Jughead looked down into his drink swirling it around his glass. Alice placed a hand on his wrist.
"She's very lucky to have you. She's a smart girl, Jughead. Besides, everyone in this room knows that you're her fiancé so no one would even try anything." She assured him.
"Well apparently he doesn't know that I'm her fiancé. Either that or he just doesn't know that I'm here and thinks that he can get away with it." His voice getting angrier, every word he spoke. Before anyone else could speak, Jughead could see Betty sauntering her way over to the group. Jughead turned his head and just looked at her in awe. She was just a complete natural beauty and everytime he looked at her, he fell for her just as hard as he did the first time. She reached through the middle of the group and placed her glass and her purse on the bar before standing next to Jughead and wrapping her arms around his neck, whilst he turned around and pecked her lips, before facing Alice and FP again.
"Wow, I don't think I've seen anyone's personality change so drastically and so quickly before." FP murmured as if in shock.
"What do you mean?" Betty asked, resting her head on his shoulder as he pulled her in closer.
"One second he was so overcome with jealousy that I thought he was gonna punch that guy, next thing I know he's like a little marshmallow." FP explained.
"Let's face it, I'm always a marshmallow when Betty is around." Jughead admitted, swaying his body back and forth in time with Betty's. Her head suddenly shot up, looking at Jughead dead in the eye, before her mouth opened in realisation.
"Ohhhh. So that's what that text was all about." Jughead was glad that the room was dark and hoped that no one could see the blush on his cheeks. He gave a quaint smile to Betty and nodded mildly. She let out a sigh and pushed some of his hair out of his face whilst her other hand still rested on his shoulder.
"I'm yours, you know I'm yours." She spoke sincerely with such love in her eyes. Jughead pulled her in closer by the hand that was on her hip and kissed her, kinda forgetting that their parents were there. After a while they were interrupted by the sound of FP clearing his throat next to them.
"All I'm gonna say is that, if that ring is anything to go by then she is definitely not going anywhere soon." He chuckled.
"Alright, I'm gonna go talk to Hermione. You'll let us know when you leave, yeah?" Alice asked as she walked past them, FP following. Betty turned around so that she could completely see Jughead and took the jacket off of her shoulders to put on the bar as it kept falling off whenever she raised her arms, before going back into the exact same position she was in before.
"Are you crazy?" Betty asked, point blank.
"Maybe..." Jughead winced.
"Well I think you are. I think that you are crazy to believe that I would ever let another man come in between years of love. I'm actually kind of insulted by the insinuation as well." Betty told him.
"Look, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you, I ju-" He was interrupted by Betty putting a single finger to his lips and giggling.
"I'm kidding. I've heard the whole speech before. You trust me, you just don't trust them." Betty smiled proudly. "I'm exhausted, will you take me home already?" Betty asked with a pouty expression printed on her face.
"Of course, bubba. Let's go." He whispered, pecking her lips and directing her out of the event, neither of them wanting to experience Alice's 'goodbye' that lasts half an hour of her telling them her life plans for them and their future children. They didn't have time for that tonight. They left the bar hand-in-hand with Jughead feeling more secure in his relationship like every other time something like this happens, because it happens a lot.{A/N} ~ 1390 words not including this.
