Jughead was sitting on the couch in their home as he reread the novel that he was teaching in his class for what felt like the thousandth time.
He'd been sitting there for almost 2 hours, waiting for his fiancé to finish in her office before they made dinner together, as she'd promised.
Turning to the clock on the wall, seeing that it was already 9 and his stomach was rumbling, he stood up. Sighing as he marked his place in his book before throwing it on the couch.
He walked to the door of their home office and knocked gently.
With no reply from behind the door, Jughead opened it to find Betty enthralled with her laptop, her fingers dancing across the keys.
"Betts?" He asks, not wanting to disturb her, yet desperate to diminish the hunger in his stomach.
"Are you ready for dinner?" He questioned as she continued to type, not even acknowledging his presence.
"Um...hello? Are you even listening to me?" He said, exasperated.
Betty only just seemed to realise that he was standing in front of her, eyes looking up for a flash before returning them to the screen that was reflecting across her flawless skin.
"Just give me another hour." She mumbled, not looking at him.
"I've given you two already and if I give you anymore, my stomach is going to eat itself." He complained.
"Well, just go ahead and eat. I'll have the leftovers." She said, over the annoying sound of the clacking on the keys.
"Betts..." Jughead sighed.
"I'm having dinner with you tonight whether you like it or not. You promised to eat with me and you have broken far too many promises recently." He spoke with finality, before pushing the lid of Betty's laptop shut, causing her to snap her fingers to her chest before they could get caught.
Yeah...that was a mistake.
Betty looked up at him with a fierce anger in her normally enchanting eyes.
"What the hell did you just do?" She seethed, slowly standing from her chair.
"Look, if you are so desperate to work then you can do it after but right now I just want to have dinner with my fiancé, okay?" He spoke, trying to calm her.
"No. That is not okay, Jughead. I didn't save what I was working on. I have worked so hard on this article all day at work and now all the work that I have done for the past 2 hours is completely gone! That's 4,000 words!" She yelled.
A look of guilt flashed across Jughead's face.
"Oh." He sighed.
"I'm sorry, Betts. Look, let's just go have dinner and then we can go to bed and you can figure this out tomorrow when you go back to work." He said, trying to calm her down.
She shook her head and sighed before slumping into her chair and covering her face with her hands.
"You're taking this job too seriously, Betts." He said.
She looked up at him in confusion.
"Jughead, this job is everything I've ever wanted. It's the only thing I've ever let myself dream for. So, yeah, maybe I am taking it too seriously but that's because I love what I do!" She exclaimed.
"What about me? What about our life together? I thought that this was everything you wanted? That's what you told me when I proposed. Is it not?" He yelled, getting agitated at her selfishness.
