the last person jeno expected to be standing outside of his house was his ex-girlfriend. he watched in confusion as she hovered near the staircase, frowning down at her phone.
"yoonmi," he breathed out without thinking.
"oh, hey jeno." she blinked up at him, seemingly unaffected by his presence.
jeno ignored the hurt in his chest, swallowing before opening his mouth again. "why are you...?"
"oh, i'm just waiting for jaemin. he asked me to go with him to an audition." she answered, swiping a stray hair behind her ear.
"your hair," he trailed, "it's blonde."
jeno fought the urge to reach over and run his fingers through it.
"yes," she replied, avoiding all possible eye contact with him by staring at his chest.
"yoon, i-," jeno began, brows pulled together in desperation before being cut off.
"it's fine, you don't have to explain yourself." the girl said, looking up to meet his face.
"no, i think i do have to explain myself. yoonmi, i-,"
"sorry about that, renjun made a comment about how unflattering my outfit was so i had to go and change." jaemin laughed before stopping short upon noticing the scene in front of him. "oh jeno, i thought you'd already left."
jeno swallowed, not even bothering to look at him. "yeah, i was waiting for mark."
"mark's here?," jaemin peered at the car in the driveway, waving at the window in confusion.
"i'll wait in the car," yoonmi suddenly spoke, plucking jaemin's keys out of his hand and walking away. she paused to wave at mark before unlocking and climbing into the vehicle.
jeno ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
"it'll be okay," jaemin offered, setting a hand on jeno's shoulder. "see you later?"
"yeah," jeno replied, shoving his hands into his pocket, "see you later."
