Ah, yes. The business chapter. But it all comes together. Some perspective switching is gonna happen. I'm tryna write as much as I can today, because I'm gonna need to focus on my last 3 1/2 days of school coming up. Oh yeah, the softness didn't end with the last chapters. Anyway. Enjoy! :)

David

"Time to rise and shine, Davey."

David opens his eyes. Jack's leaning over him. He was the one that said that. David smiles.

He had almost forgotten that he was here, in the lodging house.

"G'morning," David replies before Jack gives him a small kiss.

"This is gonna be an interesting mornin' for ya, Davey."

"Why?" David sits up with Jack.

"Well, let's just say..." Jack trails off. All he does is motion around the room of everyone waking up and beginning to get up.

"How'd ya sleep, Jack?" Mush comes by and asks.

"On me back, Mush."

Mush completely loses it.

Jack rolls his eyes. "This is the fifth time you've asked that."

Meanwhile, by Race's empty bunk, there's Snipeshooter, staring at Race's old cigar, which is just sitting on the dresser motionless.

"Ya know Race won't know you'se taken it," Jack tells him.

"Yeah, well what's the point if he don't get mad at me?" Snipeshooter responds.

Jack just lets him be and moves on.

David is witnessing it all unfold in front of him. He feels like he's behind the scenes. He sees the newsies when they're out and about. But never beforehand.

As he gets ready with them, he definitely feels a rhythm to it.

Ain't it a fine life...

Race

"Race, Race. Race."

Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna wake up, Race thinks drowsily. I'm wakin' up, I'm wakin' up.

Then he finally opens his eyes and is met with an angel blocking out the sun right above him. A guy angel with real nice hair and the prettiest blue eyes...then he realizes that it's just Spot.

And then he remembers where he is.

He's on the rooftop of the Brooklyn lodging house with Spot Conlon. They (accidentally) slept outside last night.

"Good morning, sweetheart," Spot says gently.

Race smiles. "Good morning."

As Spot moves, sunlight floods into Race's eyes and he lets out a small exclamation at the suddenness of it. "Bright! Bright!"

"You're the one who fell asleep outside last night. Now you get to wake up without anything between you and the sun." and just like that, good natured sarcastic Spot Conlon is back, with his this is what you get attitude.

"Are you blaming me for sleeping outside? Well sorry if this isn't how ya wanted to spend the night. Ya could've just left me up here, ready to freeze, all alone-"
