A couple of days later
Percy POV:
It's now been a couple of days since Hope and I learned that she was pregnant. Finding out was exciting and scary at the same time. Of course, it didn't help that the Fates told us that we couldn't raise our baby.
Currently, Hope and I were sitting on our bed, discussing baby names.
"If it's a boy, how about Elijah?" Hope suggested.
I shook my head, "Elijah Jackson. I get why you want that to be their name, but it just doesn't sound right. Plus, who names their kid Elijah nowadays anyway."
Hope shrugged, "Yeah, I guess you're right."
I added, "I mean, it could work as a middle name."
"True."
I then suggested, "If we have a girl, her name could be Hayley Jackson. After your mom."
Hope nodded, "That's a great idea."
We continued to discuss baby names for a couple more minutes until there was a knock on the Abattoir's front door. Hope and I made our way downstairs and I opened the door. We were met with the face of a witch. I didn't know him by name, but I recognized him from Lafayette Cemetery, the witches' headquarters in New Orleans.
He said, "Vincent found something on the killer. He needs to talk to you."
Hope and I nodded as we closed the door and I vapor traveled us to Lafayette Cemetery.
We appeared just outside the gates of Lafayette Cemetery. The witches don't really like me teleporting inside. Waiting for us was Vincent. He said, "I found something that I think you'll want to see."
Hope and I followed Vincent inside the cemetery until we reached a table. On it was a book. It looked really old. Like before Nico old.
It was open to a page with some pictures on it. What surprised me though was that it was written in Ancient Greek. I asked, "What's this?"
Vincent said, "I found this in Athena's Library. It contains a story that identifies our killer."
Hope looked at him and said, "And? What does it say?"
Vincent explained, "The story is about Lycaon, the first werewolf, and his pack. The story describes how Lycaon killed the servant that cooked the human flesh he fed to Zeus. It was his first kill as a werewolf."
Hope asked, "But how does this have anything to do with them?"
Vincent pointed to the picture on the page. It showed someone impaled on a tree. The picture looked identical to the scene of that young werewolf's murder last month. The picture showed the servant impaled with a missing arm.
As I continued to look at the picture, I realized what Vincent was saying. I looked at Hope and said, "Lycaon is the killer. He's behind all of this."
Vincent nodded.
But why? Why would Lycaon kill supernaturals? I voiced my thoughts and Vincent replied, "I don't know."
I asked, "Is there anything we're missing? Anything that could tell us Lycaon's motives? Some of my friends have encountered him before, and they've said that he wouldn't just kill for the sake of killing. He would have to have a reason to kill supernaturals."
Vincent thought about it for a couple of seconds. He said, "Some of the very first bodies had a brand on them. They were done posthumously, like the killer, who we now know to be Lycaon, wanted to sign his work."
"What did the branding look like?" Hope asked.
Vincent replied, "I don't remember, but we took a picture of it."
He looked at a nearby witch and asked them to go get it. A couple of minutes later, he returned. He handed it to Vincent and left. Vincent placed it on the table and faced it towards me and Hope.
The brand was burned onto the victim's chest, around where their heart would be. It showed a really buff man wearing what looked to be a lion's pelt.
My eyes widened in realization, "I know why Lycaon's killing supernaturals."
"Why?" Hope and Vincent asked at the same time.
I looked at them both and said, "The symbol, it's a picture of Hercules. I think that Lycaon was a member of Hercules's rebellion last year, and this is probably him getting his revenge."
