this was one hard book to write. all my other books are like super depressing but i really wanted a cute love story with a sprinkle of angst. kareem and saint are adorable together, and i loved writing their journeys through kareem's ptsd and saint's trust issues.

hendrix fucking dexter people. what an icon. i ADORED writing her character so much.
fun fact: hendrix actually had ADHD. i did a shitload of research so i could make it realistic without clearly stating it because we need female adhd representation in the world

i didn't write the book with the intention of bringing emery's character in. it was only as i got into writing the chapters where i thought, hey this guy might be interesting
i loved watching kareem defend his boy. king shit

initially, aaliyah had a much bigger role in the book, especially in the first drafts. she was still awfully quiet and often timid at times, unless she was around hendrix, but she appeared more often.
i changed that when i decided that hendrix deserved better <3 and didn't want the readers to build a connection with her because we don't like cheating :)

mr sacha clément. so, as stated in my bio, i have three books planned for the art of series, with the last book being based on sacha
the art of loving you, which is sacha's book and the final book of the series, was actually the book i started writing first and wrote the most for before i was decided to make it into a series.

in the first plan for the book, kareem was an art major and not ex-army

i don't know if it's ever specifically stated but kareem is pansexual, saint is gay and asexual, hendrix is lesbian, aaliyah is bisexual, sacha is straight, jem is nonbinary and labels their sexuality as queer, and kezziah is unlabled, and chooses not to label her sexuality

i listened to a shitload of fine line by harry styles while writing this book. sunflower vol 6 and canyon moon were on repeat

i changed sacha's name halfway through writing. by this point, i'd wrote scenes for each of the books and had to extensively edit all of my current drafts
sacha's original name was storm. sacha was on the original list of name ideas and halfway through writing, i realized that i liked it better and it fit my image of sacha more
