It was another day by the lake, Malphas was watching his lover flying over the water. He debated on unfurling his own midnight black wings, but decided against it. He loved her, he truly did, but he was still unsure about revealing all of himself to her. Besides, he was not the best flyer. Where she was a full fledged angel, he was not. She had grace in flight. He did not.

The water splashed at the touch of her white gold tipped wing, sending droplets of crystal clear blue water onto his face. She laughed and landed before him, "What has you so distracted, mon cher? You are not unwell, are you?" She moved to feel his forehead when he shook his head with a chuckle, the water droplets coming to the ends of his dark locks. "Of course not, of course not." He looked at her lovingly, "I just cannot comprehend how I fell in love with an angel." He tilted her chin up, "I am not saying it is a bad thing, just that I wonder... How is this so... perfect?" He glanced at the lake, "How is everything so perfect? Love like this- perfection like this, it has to come at a cost, doesn't it?" Angelica smiled, "Not if this is the garden of Eden, my love." She stood on her toes to kiss him. "Besides," she took his hand. "Come hell or highwater, I will always love you. Even if everyone else still says otherwise." She pressed her soft lips to his in a gentle kiss, and her lover sighed, cupping her face in his hand and pulling her close.

Meanwhile, in the shadowed confines of the trees, Ilia and Stolas watched. The two had been watching the couple for nearly a thousand or so years. Ilia watched with interest while her younger brother gathered and studied the herbs of the human realm, a small notebook with him as he jotted down everything about the herbs he was studying. "I still can't understand." Ilia murmured, "He's so in love with her. He doesn't even know it. Or maybe he does- but at the same time he's unsure. He has no intentions of taking her soul. That much we can be sure of." She frowned, "He's like a different demon- he's almost not even a demon here! It's like I don't even know half of him!" Her demonic heart wanted to break a bit. "I don't know my own twin."

Stolas walked over and nudged her, "Relax, Illy. Hey- you can help me with these herbs!" He offered his older sister a bushel of herbs which she made a face at. "Yuck. No thanks." She turned back to watching Malphas. "We can't tell anyone about this because Malphas will find out and probably murder us. No, not murder, butcher. You've seen him in the Hell Wars. His battalion was slaughtered and he avenged them by killing everyone else there. He came home without a scratch on him! He's brutal!" She sighed, "I wonder-" She was cut off as she scented something. "Stolas." She whispered, her tone alarmed. "Do you- do you smell that?!" Stolas paused and inhaled. His eyes widened. "We should get out of here-" Ilia hissed, "No! I want to see what happens!"

Malphas and Angelica were watching the fish in the water, chattering away. "I can't see how you like Hell." The angel was saying, "Mother says it's ravaged by wars almost daily." Malphas shrugged, "That might be so, but-" He cut himself off, eyes widening as he scented the air. He suddenly snarled and tackled the angel to the ground, "Stay down! Don't move!" Angelica looked up and noticed a group of three demons surrounding them. All three were snarling.

"Divine soul!"

"An Arch! How rare!"

"Perfect dinner..."

Malphas hissed, "Stay back! Away!" The demons chuckled, "We are many. You are not, little demon. Let your elders have their feast." Malphas snarled, letting his demon form begin to spark into existence. "I will fight you then." The demons chuckled, "To the death... Danse Macabre..." Angelica's eyes widened. Dance of death... She looked up at the demon, "Malphas, no! You'll get hurt! You are outnumbered!" Malphas looked at her, "Calm down, I can handle this." Angelica could already see the multiple contingency plans forming in his head. His eyes glazed over crimson, and he stepped over her, using his body to shield her.
