warning: there's a good amount of swearing in this chapter! I don't know if people are bothered by that but just in case!
Jisung's Mother looked absolutely stone cold. Actually, if I didn't know for a fact that she wasn't, I would have assumed she was a statue. Her skin was absolutely flawless, smooth to an unreal level. None of the vampires breathed but somehow it was more noticeable with her.
She stood straight up, poise, with her hands clasped in front of her. Her dark eyes were locked on me and it felt as if she was staring through my soul.
I swallowed a heavy breath and felt my heart starting to beat like crazy like it had done so many times with Jisung. I absolutely hated it because I knew that they could hear it. They knew that they were intimidating me, scaring me and there was no way I could really hide it from them.
The silence in the room was killing me. I wanted to speak but I felt like the last person who should be breaking the silence in the room. I wanted to turn my head to look at Jisung, signal for him to break it but I found that I physically couldn't move. I was frozen. Hypnotised.
Finally, after what felt like a life time, Il-sung, Jisung's Father, broke the silence.
"Natalie, you look absolutely lovely. You clean up well," He said with a crooked smile. It was creepy. As hell. "Please have a seat."
I was glad he offered. My legs felt as if they could collapse beneath me at any moment. I slumped down on the seat and Jisung followed, taking the one next to me.
His Mother still hadn't talked yet. She sat, silently sipping out of her glass of red wine. I was trying to remember her name - it had Sook in it but I couldn't quite remember the end of it. Then again, I didn't imagine she would want to be on first name basis. Mrs Han would probably be what I would have to call her.
"I'm sorry there's no food. I know this is technically dinner but the smell of human food is pretty repulsive to us. I hope you understand."
I just nodded. I couldn't bring myself to actually speak to him. God, get it together.
Jisung's Mother finally spoke her first words, "She doesn't care about food."
She was right. I wasn't hungry in the slightest. I hadn't been for a long time. Right now, though, I was especially unhungry. I just wanted some more answers and I was hoping his parents could give that to me.
"I'll feed her when we get back to my place," Jisung said.
I wanted to say I wasn't hungry but I couldn't even get those words out. My body was hardly responding anymore.
"It's nice you've been remembering to feed her. I always forget how often humans have to eat," Il-sung says.
Jisung's Mother sighed. "I don't see the point feeding her when-"
Both Il-sung and Jisung shouted over her at the same time. "Sook-Ja!" Ilsung yelled, sounding genuinely angry, whereas Jisung more hushed than him. He had let out a "Don't," that sounded desperate.
I finally managed to muster up the energy to speak. "When what?"
I turned my head to look at Jisung, who was clearly avoiding looking over to me in the slightest. He kept silent.
"Oh, just tell the poor girl for goodness sake. And I thought I was cruel!"
"I'm not being cruel," Jisung said. I could tell by his voice that he was angry but he wasn't snapping at his mother.
