Today's the day. I was going to the Fall Ball with Aaron! The day following our interrupted conversation about Fall Ball, Aaron formally asked me to the dance, and even bought me flowers! It was such a sweet gesture. I'd never been asked out by anyone like that before. I felt happier than I'd felt in a very long time.
When Aaron and I broke the news to the rest of our 'human crew', everyone was in full support. None more supportive than the easily excitable and infamous Jade of course. She literally screamed when I told her, and demanded that I join Monica and her at the human mall for dress shopping. Our shopping spree was a hit on my end, and I couldn't wait to match Aaron with my dress.
Joe was also surprisingly supportive of me going to the dance with Aaron. His only condition was that he got a chance to meet Aaron before we left for the dance. That should be a given, and a non-issue... except in my case it was the elephant in the room... or should I say, the giant in the room.
I'd never told Aaron my dad was a giant. I'd never told any of the humans my dad was a giant. I mean, it's not like we sit around and talk about our parents all day. And, I've only known everyone for a few weeks. And well, let's face it... I know people in the earthy human crew would make a big deal out of it, or pass futile judgments that I just didn't want to deal with. But, now was the time to start to deal with it I guess.
I spun around in front of my tri-fold mirrors admiring my dark purple dress. It was a sleeveless a-line dress made of tulle that puffed out from my waste and went to my knee. The dress was simple, but the color was a rare, deep purple, I was certain others wouldn't have. Additionally, I wore one of my mom's silver necklaces with amethyst gems from earth as my 'statement' piece of jewelry.
"You look stunning Morgan!" Joe exclaimed as he carefully made his way over to my mirrors. Once he got close enough he took out his phone to catch a candid pic.
"I'm not done yet Joe! Wait til I have my shoes on," I instructed. It was then that I realized Joe had frozen and appeared to be in a trance. "Hey! New Earth to Joe! You okay?"
"Um, Yeah, sorry. Just, the necklace took me by surprise."
"Is it okay that I wear it?"
"Yeah! Of course! It looks beautiful on you! You know, your mother wore that necklace the day we met."
"Really?" I asked, excited as always to hear any story about my mom.
"She sure did. She would be over the moon to see you with it right now."
I giggled picturing how excited my mom would have been about tonight. "Yeah. I... I feel like she should be here right now... so I figured wearing this, it's like part of her is here tonight."
"Absolutely!" Joe agreed, as he proceeded to attempt to catch another candid pic.
Ding Dong
The human doorbell sounded. It was then that I glanced at my phone and saw 5 missed calls from Aaron and a slew of text.
TEXT 1: Hey Morgan, I'm seeing you live in a giant sized house?
TEXT 2: My gps might be messed up- I'll re-put it in.
TEXT 3: Hey, it's taking me to a giant sized house.
TEXT 4: Hey, I think I'm here. I see a human driveway and door here... is this your house? I'm in a silver car.
TEXT 5: Hey- I think this took me to the wrong place. I guess I'll attempt the door tho?
Sh#t! Joe had already taken a few steps toward the door to my room to go answer the door.
