JENNIE'S POV
"I could help you"
Surprised, everyone stared at me, bewildered
"W-What?" Miyeon stuttered
"Help. I can provide that for you" I reiterated. Lisa sent me suspicious glances and I returned a smile at her. I turned my attention back to dear ol' Miyeon. "My mother works here as a nurse, you know?"
"But I don't want to"
"Don't worry about it. She's just going to give you a few discounts. Somehow. Maybe. Maybe not" I waved that idea off. "But that's not what I was getting to. I know someone who could help you. A best friend of mine. Mega rich, I'll tell you. It'd be like paying for a penny for them"
Lisa seemed to know who I was referring to, but the others were in disbelief, staring at me as if I was crazy. Which I wasn't
"You can't be serious" Alan doubted and skeptically squinted at me. "And why would these 'Rich' friends of yours want to help, anyway?"
"Because I would ask them too?" It was that simple. "Why else?"
How odd. They all appeared to be quite wary of me, now
I blinked at them. "You don't believe me?"
"Uh, no offense, but we barely know you and you barely know us, so I don't see why you'd want to pay thousands of dollars for Miyeon" Mina clarified to me
"I'm not" I frowned. "My best friend is" they continued to hold their suspicions of me, including Miyeon and even Lisa. "Give me a few days and you'll see"
"You still haven't told us why, though" Alan pushed
Man. I didn't know I needed a reason to help someone
I pondered for a bit, just for a second to formulate a basis for my generous offer. And then I looked at Lisa
"Do you want me to help Miyeon?" I asked her
"Why are you asking me?" Her brows were furrowed, completely at a loss with me, I assumed
"Because the only reason why I'd helping her would be for you" I didn't like seeing her distressed, either
"For me?"
"Of course" I titled my head. "Don't you want to help Miyeon? Free her from her financial burden?"
"Well, duh, but-"
"And there you have it" I smiled and looked at the rest of them. How strange were their faces
I'd like to believe we left the hospital on a rather good note
Lisa decided to stay home--which my mother allowed--but I wanted to go to school so I could ask my best friends if they could pay for some hospital bills for me. It'd be rude to ask over text. Requesting for money in person would be much more authentic
It was lunch hour by the time I walked into the building after my mother dropped me off, but I hadn't told my best friends that I'd be there. I wanted to surprise them a little
I searched for them at our usual table, but strangely, they weren't there. Weird. They've always sat here. Right in the middle of the cafeteria. The table was still empty, though
Maybe they went to the bathroom together?
So that's where I checked
Nope. Not there, either
They're going to make me work on finding them, huh?
It didn't take me long, though
I asked around a couple of people and they told me what room they saw them go to and even pointed in the direction they went. I reached a rather low dimmed classroom and I could distinctly see Jisoo's hair through the window
I walked right in
"Hey-"
They were kissing
I walked backed out
Waited a few seconds
And then I walked back in
They were quite far away from each other. Their breathing labored, their eyes wild, their hair a little disheveled, and their cheeks extremely flushed
"Hey Chae. Jisoo. Can one of you guys pay for this girl's hospital bills for me? Her name's Cho Miyeon. Her father is staying at the hospital my mother works"
"W-What? Oh! Yeah, sure. Will do that. Yup!" Chaeyoung laughed nervously and looked at Jisoo frantically
"U-uh, alright, I guess?" Jisoo also complied quite readily. "Wait, I thought you were going to stay at the hospital for a while"
"I was. And now I'm here" I looked between the two of them. "So you guys will help pay? For the Miyeon's father. They need it"
"Um...okay?"
Great
I left them
Seconds, minutes, and hours ticked by and school was finally over. Jisoo and Chaeyoung kept giving me weird side-eyed glances throughout the whole way back home and when I asked them what was wrong, they said it was nothing. I don't see why they were so worked up over nothing, though
Mother had gone off to work, Lisa and I ate dinner, and then we got into bed together
I found myself liking her warmth
Before I went to sleep, Lisa asked me something
"Jennie?"
"Yes?"
"Be honest with me"
I flipped myself over to look at her. "Okay"
She took a deep breath. "Did you...have anything to do with Miyeon's father?"
What a strange question. "With Miyeon's father? I don't believe so. I just met the guy. However, I did have this weird dream yesterday where I was riding this bike, and then it flew right onto a magical beanstalk that grew tall and taller, and then I entered this giant's lair where I had to hide behind the fluffs of cloud and then under the giant's bed-"
Lisa clasped her hand on my mouth. "Okay, shut up"
I licked her palm and she squealed back, her hand away
"Ew! What the fuck, Jennie?"
"Only your lips are allowed to be there"
I think she rolled her eyes
The bed creaked a bit when she leaned closer to me and I felt her soft lips touch mine for just a sweet minute. I liked her kisses
She moved away, a little breathless, and smirked at me. "Ready to shut up, now?" I nodded. "Good"
I do like her kisses
For a while, I waited, staring at the ceiling and counting each breath Lisa took before she finally fell asleep
One
Two
Three
Four
Five
Six
And more
I couldn't help but think about that question she asked me about Miyeon's father. That small underlying tone of suspicion and accusation in her voice, and just for a moment, I heard a small buzz and felt just the tiniest urge to scratch my arm
I ignored it
