We Promised.... But What Happened?

Karen's POV

The weather here is very ghetto in Detroit. It's September and we had heavy rains last night. It rained so badly, that neighborhoods were flooded, including Jacky and Tam's. So school has been canceled for the next few days. Thank God. So instead of having our traditional sleepover at Doe's house, everyone came to my house since my neighborhood wasn't flooded too bad. Tam's mom went to check on her grandparents, Jacky's mom left yesterday morning to check on her grandparents. While they're gone she'll be staying with me and Tam will be staying with Doe. That's if the roads clear up. If not everyone will be staying with me. We're always at each other's houses so clothes and whatnot weren't a problem. So for the next however many days, it'll be me and my homegirls chillin and having girl time.

Our parents had worked late last night, so Doe and her mom spent the night. Jacky and Tam were able to take the back street to my house. Since we had been up since 6 thinking we were able to go to school, My mom and Goddy had made us breakfast. French Toast, eggs, sausage and bacon. So we're just gonna chill in our cute lounge clothes all day

"Y'all wanna watch movies or play games first?" I asked them

"Games." They all replied

"Let's play Uno first." Tam suggested
"Bet." Karen went to retrieve the cards.

"I'll deal." Jacky said shuffling the cards

"Doe you better not cheat either." Karen said as she sat on the bed

"I don't cheat. Y'all just mad that I be hitting y'all with the Draw 4's and whatnot. I can't help if I'm the Uno guru " She bragged

They all looked at her sideways and Jacky spoke up

"Shut up and let's play." Jacky said as she finished dealing the cards

After playing 7 rounds of Uno with of course Doe winning 5 of them. They decided to watch movies now. First they chose Friday. Jacky put the Uno cards up as Karen set the movie.
"I'm gonna go get some snacks. What y'all want?" Tam asked

"Vanilla Wafers, Strawberry Kiwi Juice, Apple Juice, Gummy Worms, Oreos and Sour Cream & Onion Lay's Chips." Doe said since she knew what everyone liked

"Got It. Doe can you get the extra blankets and pillows please. I wanna build our fort." Tam said

"Way ahead of you sis." Doe replied

Tam's POV

I headed downstairs to the kitchen to retrieve the snacks. As I was walking, I could hear Aunt Valerie and Aunt Cheryl talking in the living room. I presumed it was regular chit chat until I heard Aunt Val say something about moving. I decided to walk the other direction to so that I could easedrop and they not see me. What I heard, had me frozen in place.

"Cher, I think I'm gonna tell Eric that I think we should break things off. It's not that I don't like him, I really do. It's just that I don't know how we can go further in the relationship when I'm supposed to be moving to Dallas for this new job." She said in a somber tone

"New Job? Dallas? Eric?" Tam said to herself

Hearing Aunt Val say this, I begin to wonder what was this all about. I continued to listen but stay hidden so they couldn't see me.

"Val, why don't you talk to him and see where his head is before you jump to this decision?" Cheryl suggested

"I haven't even told Karen about us. Now I have to tell her that we're moving to Dallas and she won't be able to graduate with her friends. This is too much right now." Val put her head in her hands as Cheryl comforted her

Hearing this news, I found herself stuck in a difficult position. Innow had to find a way to not reveal to Karen what I just overheard. How will I be able to keep this secret from my best-friend?

I had heard enough, I decided to walk to the kitchen and retrieve the snacks quietly so I wouldn't get caught. After doing so I decided to take the back stairs back to Karen's room. I entered the room and placed the snacks on the floor in front of the fort that was built on the floor

"What took you so long?" Doe asked

"Oh. Uhm I had to pee." Tam said nervously as she sat next to Jacky

Karen noticed how jumpy she was acting and decided to question it

"You sure you good sis?" She asked Tam

"Yeah I'm fine. C'mon let's start the movie." I said as I grabbed the Oreos

Jacky noticed how she was acting but decided to not say anything. She didn't want to ruin their girl time. But she'll be sure to ask Tam when they get by themselves

For the new few hours, they watched all of their favorite movies and even quoted some lines as well. This is what Karen loved. Having her girls with her whenever she can. The bond that they held couldn't be broken by anything and she wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.

*knock knock* the girls peeked from their fort to see Doe's mom standing in the door

"Hey mom. What's up?" Doe asked

"Hey girls. Having fun?" Cheryl asked

"Yes ma'am." They replied

"Where's Goddy?" Doe asked

"Oh she's taking a nap. She has a migraine" Cheryl said. She didn't want to tell the reason for Val's migraine

"Oh okay. I'm glad she's resting. She's been working a lot lately." Karen said

"What do you girls want for dinner tonight?" Cheryl asked

"Aunt Cheryl, can you make your famous sausage and peppers with yellow rice please?" Jacky asked nicely

"Could you please." Karen said. She loved sausage and peppers

"Can Aunt Val make a cheesecake for dessert. That's if she's feeling better." Jacky asked

"Yeah I'll see she's up to it." Valerie replied
"I'm going to take a nap as well and then I'll get started in a few hours. How's that sound? She asked

"Okay, no problem." They replied

"Have fun girls." She kissed each of them on the forehead and left out as she closed the door

They continued to watch movies before deciding to take a nap as well. It was only noon so they had plenty of time to sleep until dinner time.

Of course I didn't fall asleep fast like I usually did ask because of what was on my mind. I hated keeping secrets but if I told the girls, especially Karen what I overheard then Aunt Val and Aunt Cheryl would know that I overheard them. I decided to push that to the back of my mind and nap. I'll revisit that when it's time

Should Tam tell what she heard or let Valerie handle that?

Do you think she'll tell Jacky?

Knowing this information, do you think Karen and Doe would be upset that Tam knew and didn't say anything?
