We Promised.... But What Happened?

XVIII

*OMINSCENT POV*

AFTER DINNER VAL AND KAREN'S HOME

Walking inside Val and Karen's home, everyone hung up their coats. The ride home was silent, for obvious reasons. Dinner was slightly draining so everyone needed to rest. Cheryl and Doe decided to stay with Val and Karen for the night

"I'm going to go shower and get some sleep. My head hurts. Goodnight mom and Goddy." Karen said as she hugged them both

"Goodnight baby." They replied to her

"Doe, can you make sure that she's okay." Val asked

"Sure Goddy Val. Goodnight you two." Doe said heading upstairs

"She will forever be mad at me." Val said as she headed to the kitchen

"Karen isn't mad. She's upset. But she isn't mad. She just needs time." Cheryl said following her

"Maybe I'm making the wrong the decision." Val said as she drank her bottle of water

"No, you're making the right decision. Listen, don't worry too much about that. Let's head upstairs and get some rest. We all need it." Cheryl told her

They both headed upstairs. Val was grateful for a friend like Cheryl. Of course, the other ladies have been a great support system, but Cheryl has been her rock.

"Hey, what are you all doing here at this hour?" Val asked as she walked in her room seeing YoYo, Cassandra and Chelle

"Cheryl called us while you were all still at dinner. So, we just packed our spinnanight bag and drove right on over." Cassandra told her

"Thank you, Cheryl." Val said hugging her

"Don't mention it." Cheryl replied as she headed to Val's bathroom to change

"How are you feeling?" Chelle asked as Val walked in her closet and changed into her sleepwear

"I don't know. I thought I was doing the right thing by protecting her. Now I'm not so sure anymore." Val said

"You are doing the right thing. It was obvious that Karen was going to upset. But she'll be okay. Just give her time." Michelle replied as Val sat on the bed

"I was telling Val that instead of Doe and I going on our annual vacation that we usually do, I thought it would be better if we did a group trip. That way, the girls could enjoy their last summer together." Cheryl spoke as she came out of the bathroom

"Oh, that sounds like fun. I'm wherever y'all go, it won't be boring. That is of course Val picks the destination." Chelle teased

"Shut up Chelle. I am not boring." Val said as she threw a pillow

"What do you mean, "wherever y'all go"? You're coming too, so don't try it." Cassandra told her

"We should invite Angela too." Yolanda suggested

"You really think that, that man is going to allow her to leave the country?" Cassandra asked

"No, but it's worth a try." Yolanda spoke

"Speaking of Angela. Chelle have you spoken to her recently?" Val

"No, actually I haven't. Is everything okay?" Michelle asked

"I don't know. The girls mentioned that she has been coming into school and stuff. I wanted to ask you first before I made my next step." Val replied

"I pray that she's okay." Cassandra spoke

"I have an idea. Why don't I do a welfare check myself?" Michelle spoke

"How are you going to do that?" Cheryl asked

"Pretend that I'm the new neighbor. I go over with pretending I just moved in, Bryant sees me, he gets spooked, I give him a warning, he's mysteriously goes unconscious and boom, Angela is on vacation with us for a few weeks. It's nothing to it." Michelle spoke mischievously

"I'm not even gonna ask. YoYo get your sister." Val replied

"Now, you see who's the crazy one." Yolanda replied

"Where do you think we should go?" Cheryl asked the ladies

"Bali." Michelle and Cassandra spoke

"Great minds think alike." Cassandra replied

"Great now that we all agree, can we go to sleep now?" Yolanda asked

"You were already halfway there anyways." Cheryl spoke

"Yes, I was. Now I need silence. Val don't even think about touching that thermostat either." Yolanda said as she positioned her pillow and went to sleep

*NEXT MORNING*

Karen's POV

Last night after dinner was very exhausting. Jacky and Tam were here when we got back so I could only assume that Auntie YoYo and Cassandra were here as well. I didn't feel like talking or anything, so I just showered and laid down. But before I could fall asleep, Tam wanted to have a private conversation. She explained to me how she overheard my mom and Goddy Cheryl talking one day and the real reason why she took that promotion. After she explained everything, I started feeling guilty for the way I reacted. Tam comforted me and told me that if I wanted to mad at someone, be mad at her for not telling me sooner. I told her I couldn't be mad at her, but that I did need to apologize to my mother. Just have to figure out first. I finished my hygiene and got back in bed when someone knocked on my door

*KNOCK KNOCK*

"Come in." I told whoever was knocking

"Hey baby girl, everyone is downstairs eating breakfast. Why are you still up here in bed?" Auntie Yolanda asked

"After my behavior last night at dinner, I wouldn't dare show my face this morning." I answered her question

"Karen, sit up." Yolanda told me as she sat on my bed before continuing

"Listen to me. What happened last night at dinner with your mom is nothing to feel ashamed about. You were thrown a curveball and you got upset. It's normal for teenagers to do so. I did the same when I was a kid." She explained

"But I just know that my mom is upset with me. Plus, she thinks that I hate her." I spoke

"Are you?" Auntie YoYo asked me

"No, of course I'm not. I'm upset and confused. But I could never hate her." I explained

"Listen, when your mom is ready to explain everything to you, she will. But just know that the decision that she made, was in no way to say that she hates you. Instead, it was made to protect you and make sure that you are safe. Okay?" She spoke

"Yes ma'am. I love you Auntie." I told her hugging her

"I love you too sweetie. But the next time Val tells me that you got loud with her; you'll have to deal with me." She spoke tapping my thigh

"I hear you." I replied laughing

"Now, ready to go eat?" She asked me

"Yeah, let's go before Doe eats everything in sight." I replied as she grabbed my hand and we headed downstairs
