*Meeting Day*

Yolanda’s POV

Today was the day that Valerie will be meeting with Angela and she asked us to come with her for moral support. Cassandra was called in for an emergency surgery, so she won’t be able to join us. Thankfully, school opened back up today. I love my daughter, but she had to leave my house today. Freshly showered and moisturized, I stood in my walk-in closet wrapped in my towel looking for something to wear. Since it’s in the 60s today, I opted for a sweater dress and my flat thigh high boots. I got dressed and did my hair. I decided to wear my natural hair in a ponytail. After getting dressed I had about an hour to spare before I had to leave so I decided to watch TV until then.

I sat and watched one of my favorite shows Law & Order: SVU when the doorbell rang. The episode was about to end, so whoever was the door was just going to have to wait for about two minutes. The episode went and every time I watch it, I’m amazed at how amazing Stabler and Benson are as a duo. I walked downstairs to answer the door wondering who it could be. I opened the door and got the surprise of my life.

“CHELLE!!!!!! What are you doing here???” I said as I hugged my sister

“I’m in town for a seminar but I decided to fly in early so that I could spend time with my baby sister and my niece.” Michelle said as she hugged her sister back

“Well come in. I’m sorry, but Jacky isn’t home. They went back to school today.” Yolanda said as she shut the door

“Oh, that’s fine. I’m going to be in town for a while, so we have plenty of time.”

“Let’s have a seat in the living room and we can catch up.” Yolanda said

“Sounds great. Lead the way.” Michelle said

Michelle and I aren’t biological sisters. When my parents married, my dad already had Michelle from a previous relationship, who coincidently was only six months older, and he shared full custody with her mother. Growing up, we had the best relationship ever, blood couldn’t make us any closer. Unfortunately, when Michelle turned seven, her mom did the unimaginable. She lied and said that Michelle was being abused by our father. Even going so far as putting fake bruises on Michelle’s body. Of course, the courts didn’t believe my father so in the end she was granted full custody and my father lost his visitation rights. We lost contact for many years until we reunited at Jacky father’s funeral. About a week after our anniversary in June, I found out that I was almost three months pregnant. I couldn’t wait to tell Calvin that he was finally getting the baby that we desperately prayed for, but unfortunately, he was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver before I got the chance to tell him. To say that I was devasted and heartbroken was an understatement. My parents saw how distraught I was over his death, and they tracked Michelle down. The day of Calvin’s funeral was the first time I had saw my sister since we were seven years old. To this day, I’m forever grateful for what my parents did.

“YoYo, this is a beautiful home. Let me just say that I am so proud of you. I really am.” Michelle said as she sat down

“Thank you so much Chelle. Enough about me what brings you back to Detroit. If memory serves me correctly, you said that you’d never come back here.” I said laughing

“Okay so I may have said that. But look at you, you moved.” Michelle teased back

“Yeah, well I moved back because Atlanta held too many memories. When Calvin and I moved there, we were planning our whole lives there. But after he died, I didn’t see a reason to stay there. Plus, I wanted to be closer to mom and dad.” I explained

“Well, like I said earlier, I’m in town for a seminar. I am up for the chief of staff position at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. But I have to attend these seminars and complete some training here before I can move. I also flew back to meet with two of my friends of college as well.” Michelle said

“That’s amazing. Congratulations!” I spoke

“Thank you.” Michelle said

“So, tell me, whatever happened to that guy you were dating? What was his name, Bryant? I remember that you were so in love him, that you packed up and moved to New York to be with him. I’ll never forget dad’s face when you told him your plans and he didn’t even meet him.” I said thinking back

“Well, Bryant and I eventually married. But I’m glad dad didn’t meet him though. About two years after we married, he begin to change. I just couldn’t put my finger on it though. He eventually moved out after I filed for separation. We got back together, after he promised that he would stop the lying and everything. I really believed that he was going to change, but that never happened. I was finally fed up and when he left like he always did, I packed all of shit, changed the locks, got a restraining order and I filed for divorce. That was a little over a year ago. But my lawyers can never seem to catch him to serve the papers.” Michelle explained

“Well, I’m praying something happens and that catch him.” I spoke

“Me too.” Michelle said

I noticed time had gotten away from us and I needed to be leaving to meet with Val and Cheryl. I didn’t want to leave my sister, so I decided to invite her with us. I’m sure Val and Cheryl won’t mind, plus my best friends can meet my sister.

“Listen, I have to meet some friends for lunch and a meeting at Olin Bar & Kitchen. I know you said you were meeting some friends as well. What time do you meet with them?” I asked

“Actually, in about 30 minutes and coincidently it’s the same restaurant. But they know I’m always never on time so it’s fine.” Michelle replied

“Yeah, you can never be anywhere on time. But today that’s going to change because I’m driving.” I said gathering my purse and keys and heading out the door

“YoYo, you drive like you’re racing in the Daytona 500 though.” Michelle whined

“But I arrive safely to my destinations every time. That’s all that matters. After you my dear.” I said letting Michelle walk out first so I can lock up.

During the drive to the restaurant, Chelle and I reminisced some more and even had a concert like we used to have when we were kids. I’m glad to have my sister with me. The relationship we have is indescribable and I wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world.
