Armin was trying his hardest.

It wasn't a fluke that he was one of Paradis High's top students.

But right now, his acclaimed smarts weren't helping his case at all.

The case being a girl with kind eyes and a warm personality who had suddenly turned ice cold and stiff with everybody. His best friend who had been turning down any invitations for hangouts and outings.

He couldn't for the life of him figure out what was wrong with Y/n. All he knew was that she was different from the moment she stepped onto campus that Tuesday morning.

He had gone over to greet the girl during P.E., and she had given him a lackluster response. When asked how she was feeling, she kept her reply short and, to Armin's belief, insincere.

"I'm alright."

The blonde was quick to become suspicious, and her lack of participation in German class was a dead giveaway. He asked her once more at lunch if she was fine, and she once again insisted she was, moving away from the blonde in favor of sitting in between Jean and Mikasa at the lunch table, which struck him as being odd since Y/n was always next to Armin, kicking his feet playfully and stealing the blonde's graham crackers when he wasn't looking.

But Armin was the most disappointed towards the end of his days. He would find himself walking home from school, alone and saddened by Y/n's absence. The girl would always tell him to go on ahead since she had recently taken up after school tutoring for math, which Armin questioned since Y/n excelled at the subject. He knew she hated math, but as much as she procrastinated on her assignments, Y/n always found a way to cram and get great test scores.

So when Armin thought back to all that was happening, and wracking his brain to search for the root of the problem, and huffing and puffing to find a solution, he came to one conclusion.

He had suffocated Y/n with his clinginess.

Out of all the things that could have happened, that was the only reason he found rational.

Because of this, he took it upon himself to berate himself in front of Eren one late February day. Armin was venting, and Eren was half-mindedly paying attention as he sat on the blonde's couch and played Mario Kart. It was only after the brunette got fed up with losing to foreign players that he flung the control towards the empty space on the couch next to him and fully started to hear Armin out.

"Ya know?" Armin had asked after saying a bunch of things that Eren had not at all processed.

"Yup." Eren had turned towards his friend and nodded, pressing his lips together and not knowing.

"But, anyways, I'm pretty sure she got tired of me. I mean, she sits next to Jean and Mikasa now at lunch, which is really weird since she always sat next to me...oh, God, am I being clingy right now, Eren?! She should sit wherever she wants! Who am I to want her to sit next to me all the time?"

Armin was spiraling, and Eren sighed.

"Armin, Y/n's in love with you or somethin'. She wouldn't just suddenly stop hanging out with you if you were too clingy. If she thought that, she would have stopped hanging out with you a long time ago!"
