June harkened the gradual beginnings of roaring summer, when the heat of the blazing sun was at its worst, and teen boredom was in full effect. At least for those who didn't have plans.
Jean leaned on his chair precariously, staring blankly up at the white, popcorn ceiling of his bedroom while he let his mind run rampant. Strewn across his bed was Marco, who was working on his summer homework and highlighting whole paragraphs in his notebook. He groaned in frustration as he kept rereading a passage in his chemistry textbook without meaning to.
"I can't focus."
Marco shut his book and put his pencil down in favor of playing around on his phone.
"I'm done for today," he mumbled as he browsed through social media.
Sitting down on Jean's carpet and leaning against the wall was Y/n, looking down in disdain at her matching chemistry textbook, which she also closed.
"Me too."
She crumpled up her paper that she had used for scratch work and swiftly tossed it over at Jean's head, startling the boy.
"The hell are you doing?" He scowled at the girl. She only snickered.
"It's not my fault your big head got in the way of the trash can."
"But Y/n, the trash can is over there." Marco pointed towards the complete opposite direction of Jean, where the clean trash can was sitting unassumingly.
Y/n stared wordlessly at the bin and shrugged.
"My bad."
"Guys, I'm bored. All we've done is sit around and done meaningless crap." Jean stood up from his chair and stretched out before bending down to pick up the crumpled paper from the floor. He tossed it at Y/n and it hit her square in the face.
"But we were doing homework," Marco pointed out.
"Exactly." Jean crossed his arms and gave Marco a disappointed look. "Let's go do something!" His arms lifted up into the air dramatically.
"Like what?" Y/n turned to him.
Just as Jean was about to answer, he got a text on his phone. He picked up the phone and in an instant, a goofy smile etched itself onto his face as he stared down at the screen.
Marco and Y/n looked at each other with raised brows and quietly laughed as they saw Jean sit back down on his chair and answer the text happily.
"Is it Mikasa?"
Jean looked up.
"Wh- How did you know?"
"We're just psychic," Marco replied, grinning.
"Mikasa asked if I wanted to go to the beach with her, Eren, and Armin on Friday. She also asked if you wanted to go, Marco."
"Sure, I'm down, but why didn't they just put it in the group chat?"
"I dunno," Jean shrugged.
"Aww, what about Y/n?" Marco frowned and looked towards the girl, who had been busy untangling her earbuds. She then looked up at Marco indifferently and shrugged slightly.
"Maybe they stopped trying to invite me since I haven't hung out with anyone in months. Understandable."
It was then that Y/n's phone went off. She looked down at it and smiled instantly at the caller ID.
Marco and Jean looked at each other.
"Armin?"
"Maybe. Now be quiet." Y/n pressed a finger to her lips and signaled for the two to stay hushed.
