The rest of the trial went pretty quick.

It was all a plan of Mr. Owen to get the money.
The defendant, Mr. Dee Dit refused to say why he late that day, but after Athena's 'therapy session' we managed to find out that he was selling drugs with a mysterious client that was revealed to be Mr. Owen who wanted to cast suspicions on someone.

The defense team was finally comfortable defending Mr. Dee Dit, especially when detective Ema's crew found Trucy and arrested the kidnappers.

Simon and I pressed on Mr. Owen and made him confess, and real quick the trial was over.

"Well, it seems like none of the sides have any objections.
I declare the defendant, Mr. Dee Dit, NOT GUILTY!"
The judge declared, and confetti fell from the ceiling.

"We should let them celebrate.
Let's go get Trucy from the police station."

I nodded and we left the courthouse.

"So, what do you say about being a prosecutor?"
Simon asked.

"It's quite nice, I suppose.
Although today was a little different from regular cases I've seen you in."
I laughed nervously.

Simon stopped in his tracks.
"If it weren't for you, an innocent person would have gone to jail."

"Well, not THAT innocent.
But yea, innocent of murder."

Simon chuckled.
"You are right."

"Y/N! Prosecutor Blackquill!"

"TRUCY!"
I hugged her.

"Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"
Simon was a little worried.

"Nope!
Well, the ropes were a little too tight but I'm fine.
I think I should practice more of my escaping tricks, though."
Trucy giggled.

"What a true entertainer. Keeping a smile on her face no matter what."
AAA Simon is acting so precious!!!

"Do you want to have Taka on your shoulder?"

"Yes!!!"
Trucy got really excited.
I giggled.
"Let's bring you back to your father."

"TRUCY! OH GOD TRUCY!"
Mr. Wright cried out, hugging her tightly.

"Group hug!"
Athena announced, and the four didn't let go of each other for a long while.

Simon put his hand under my chin, his thumb brushing against my cheek.
"You did this, L/N-Dono.
Hmpf. How do you always manage to make people around you happy?"

"W-Well..."
I smiled shyly, blushing.
"It just... happens..."

Simon chuckled, pulling me into a long, sweet kiss.

My vision slipped to my right, and I saw them just STANDING there, like they want to say something but debate if they should interrupt or not.

I tapped on Simon's shoulder and he pulled away.

"What."
He said, looking at them.

"AAA you two are too cute together,
I SWEAR!!!"
Athena got excited.

"I know, right? Also prosecutor Blackquill is much more nicer than you think, Daddy, Polly!"
Trucy joined.

"I doubt that..."
Apollo mumbled.
Simon slightly tensed up.

"But I'm thankful. For both of you."

I nodded.

"We all appreciate what you did here today. You saved my daughter and brought her back to me.
If there's anything I can do-"

"That's enough, Wright-Dono.
We were just doing our job."
Simon looked aside.

"You better keep a good grip on your gals.
They keep on getting in trouble."
He continued, still not keeping eye-contact.

Mr. Wright wasn't really sure on how to respond.

"Let's go, Y/N. See you all in court.
And in a magic show, perhaps?"
Simon sneaked a little smile to Trucy as he took my hand and left.

When we arrived at the apartment, Simon immediately put Taka on the stand and went to change into his sweater, without saying anything.

I'm quite worried about him.
He has been acting weird since that conversation an hour ago.

I wonder what happened...
Nothing out of the ordinary, right?
Or, at least, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary...

I finished changing, too, and set next to Simon on the couch.
"Umm... Simon, you seem--"

"Can we just cuddle?"
He cut me off.
Doesn't look like he's in the mood to talk...

"Sure"
I smiled softly, shuffling closer and putting my head in his chest.

My fingers tangled in Simon's long hair.
I listened to the sound of his heartbeat.
I felt the warmth of his slow breath.

"Do you think I'm too intimidating?"
He suddenly asked after a while.

"H-Huh? What do you mean?"
This question caught me off guard.

"Am I not nice? Cruel? Cold-hearted?"

"S-Simon, where is this all coming from?"
I got worried.

"J-Just answer... p-please..."
He begged.

...

I took a deep breath.

"Simon Blackquill, you are the most warm-hearted, caring and loving person I've ever got to know."
I said genuinely, looking into his eyes.

"What makes you doubt that?"

"...
The way people look at me.
How they act when I'm around.
How they react when they realise that YOU are with someone like ME."
He sighed.

"Simon... but isn't it what you do? Keeping up the scary act? To save time?"
I wondered.

"W-Well... yes, but...
I suppose that I'm getting tired of this..."
Simon admitted.

"You are the only one whom I feel like I can be my true self with."
He smiled.

I hugged him.

"You don't have to pretend to be anything else. I love you this way.
I promise to you... one day, people will understand how truly precious you are."

"S-Stop... you'll make me tear up,
L/N-Dono."
Simon chuckled.

"Not before you kiss me."
I giggled.

"...I love you, Y/N."
He cupped my cheeks.

...
Prosecutor Simon Blackquil.
Who would have thought that a goody-two-shoes guard like me who follows the rules would fall in love with an inmate?
Well, I'm not a guard anymore.
And he is not an inmate anymore.

Non of us belonged in that prison anyway.

We belong to each other.
Whether it's me standing by his side in the courtroom, or him taking me for a walk hand in hand while Taka flies above, or us just cuddling together while watching TV.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

"I love you too, Simon."
I whispered softly before our lips connected and we kissed.
