Chapter 8

    "WHO?" Tanong ni Siggy sa lobby receptionist sa kabilang linya. A certain Detective Knight de la Vega wants to see his boss. Nasa boardmeeting si Destiny at saglit siyang lumabas dahil may inabot na note sa kanya ang isa sa mga receptionist ng floor kung saan naroon ang boardroom. The meeting will end in another half hour, he told the receptionist on the phone to escort the detective to the thirtieth floor. 

Nang nakarating ito ay pinapasok niya muna sa outer office at sinilbihan ng kape. Hindi nag-iisa ang detective, kasama nito ang partner na si Dei na nagtanong kung saan puwede magbanyo. Itinuro niya ang washroom rito.

    "To whom do I owe a pleasure of meeting?" sabay silang tumayo ni Detective de la Vega. The meeting was over. Kitang-kita sa mga mata ni Destiny ang pagod, she's pulling an all-nighter few days in a row. Yesterday, she's starting to build a proposal for a European investment market na ipapasok sa Pilipinas which includes, healthcare and life insurances. She's planning to integrate it with the government so that the people can have a better access to healthcare. 

    "Detective Knight de la Vega of Morville Metropol," he offered his hands pero tiningnan lang ito ni Destiny. Siya na ang nakipagkamay rito. Pumasok na sila sa loob ng opisina. She sat on her throne while the detective remained standing. 5'11 black hair stubbles, laging serious, messy hair, takip yung isang mata

    "Ms. Lauchengco, can we talk in private?" tumingin ito sa kanya. He definitely doesn't want him here.

    "No. My assistant will stay or else you can go." 

    "Puwes, hindi na ako magpapaligoy-ligoy pa. Your employee, Lena Madrigal was found dead at two in the morning near the borderline of Morville river." Nanigas si Siggy sa tabi ni Destiny. 

    "She's my former employee." Paglilinaw ng dalaga. 

    "I heard from her friend na nagkaroon raw kayo ng away dahil sa discrepancies sa isang account. You accused her of stealing and you want the money back at isa ka sa mga suspect sa pagpatay kay Ms. Madrigal."

    "That's impossible!" Hindi alam ng taong ito ang buong kuwento. If someone died regardless of what they have done, considered na sila ang kawawa. 

    She scoffed and leaned forward to her desk. 

    "You think I would kill someone for the sake of money? Yes, I fired her and it's not about the money dahil marami na akong pera. Ayaw kong niloloko ako ng mga tauhan ko. I trusted her to handle my charity account and all she did was to embezzle and gamble the money! Anong gusto mong maging reaksiyon ko? Matuwa? Mag-celebrate?" Now she's pissed lalo na't hinaluan pa ng pagod. Binuksan nito ang drawer at ibinagsak sa lamesa ang folder na naglalaman ng ebidensiya ng pagnanakaw ni Ms. Madrigal. 

    "She was raped and then murdered," dagdag pa ng detective.
    "At least she's not suffering," bulong nitong sagot pero nakarating naman sa pandinig niya. "Here's the evidence of her stealing from the company and the proof that I am innocent. You're a detective, do your fucking job." 

    Halata ang pagkainis sa mukha ni Detective de la Vega, mukhang hindi ito ready sa pagharap kay Destiny.

    "She's not the culprit," bumukas ang pinto at iniluwa ang partner ng detective. He almost forgot her. May dinudutdot ito sa mini-tab.
