3 months  later

Finally the day for umemulo has arrived. The day before Liz and her sisters had to stay home and not go anywhere. Later in the afternoon they  put red clay on their faces ibovu  and went around  the neighborhood with their friends  singing and dancing  and inviting people to the ceremony. They went to bed very late because when they got back home the relatives  who where sleeping over were already  there singing and dancing and ofcourse drinking the night away.

This morning the girls had to get up early to go wash in the river. Liz's  brother and a few male cousins went with them for protection. They bathed and got dressed at the river. They had to wait there until some one was sent to fetch them. At least they had meat and food to eat while they waited.

Finally her brother was told to go and fetch them from the river

Everyone was waiting for them to arrive. Jason couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Liz in her traditional attire. He'd never seen her dressed like this before. The ceremony began with Liz's uncle greeting and welcoming everyone to the Ndlovu's house on this special occasion. There was more singing and dancing as more people arrived. Then Liz's uncle called for order. Each girl had been given a short spear. She had to take this spear and stick it in the ground in front of someone and that person had to put money in her hat or scarf.
