Chapter 51: The Successor

I stare at the sky for a moment

I then shifted my gaze at the toy that my brother stored in his heart

It was stained with his own blood

All of the memories I spent with him started playing in my head

I remembered when I played chess with him in the library we were crowded by the soldiers despite not knowing how to play

The time when he fully trusted me with his plans. There wasn't a single drop of hesitation from him. I got closer despite not knowing we were blood related

I had long chats with him about my opinion to our expedition outside the walls

He trusted me with his plans. He openly accepted my suggestion of plans

He was kind, caring and considerate

Reminiscing the events that occurred today made my tears flow on my eye sockets

I never thought that he would be my brother. I already felt his brotherly love before knowing

Since the first day we met when I was young I already felt comfortable at his presence

But now his gone just like the rest of them

I will never forget him

I then saw Armin he opened his eyes and sat up

"Armin!" I heard Eren yell his name and rushed his way toward the called person

Eren gave a tight embrace to his friend

I didn't pay attention to them

I silently stare down the wall where I could see the new recruits

Dead on the floor

I could smell the foul odor of the dead soldiers

Being a veteran soldier the scent of blood is a normal thing

Levi arrived the scene and saw the two teens hugging

He then shifted his gaze to the woman he dearly loved

He saw her blankly staring at the pile of corpses. He gently placed his palm at her eyes covering it from her sight and leaned his head on her neck

He frowned at the sight of her

He understood that she was still affected and mourning for her brother's death

He blamed himself for making her cry

Even though she kept telling him that she doesn't blame him for his death

This will be the burden that added in his shoulder but now is quite heavier than the other burden he had to take

He knew that he couldn't bring him back

So he simply sighed

I appreciate what Levi is doing I stayed on my position when I heard Armin spoke

"Captain what happened here? I remember Berthold transforming into a titan? What happened to the others? Are they fine?" Armin asked his face full of worry and confusion

"That's the only thing you remember?" Levi asked Armin

He then shifted his gaze to Eren

"Tell him everything" he then took out a signal flare from his pockets and pointed it to the sky

He shot the flare informing the others to retreat and gather since they were finding survivors from the battlefield
