~Chapter 5~

"Steve" Hadley said, trying to keep up with him as she followed him, "Steve! RODGERS"

Steve finally stopped and turned to her "What?"

"Cut Tony a break will you?" She asked, "he's doing everything he can to make sure you and Sam don't go to jail. The least you could do is give him some slack"

"Really? So you approve of all this?" Steve said, "stripping us of our rights as heroes, locking Wanda up-"

"She's not locked up she's just-"

"On house arrest" Steve said

"In a very nice house!" Hadley retorted, "and yes! He's protecting us. Trying to stop our situation from getting worse! But you can't see that because you'd rather go off and play soldier with your old military buddies!"

"No." Steve said, walking closer to her, "I'm not seeing that because I know it's not right. Bucky didn't do it. I know him. He's my friend. He said he doesn't do this any more and he's telling the truth"

"Steve..." Hadley said softly

"I'm not going to sit and wait for us to be told we're needed, regardless of whether or not we actually are. We're the Avengers. We're Earth's Mightiest Heroes right? We're not chess pieces. And I'm not about to become one" he said and with that he walked past her and back into the office

Hadley sighed and leaned against a wall. Men.

She looked down at her leg quietly. It hurt. But it wasn't too bad. She leaned her head back on the wall and took a breath. This was all so exhausting... All of this fighting. She just wished-

She stood straight quickly when she heard sirens going off throughout the building

She quickly pushing through the office doors and looked around, everyone was in a panic

"Evac all civilians!" Ross commanded, "I want a perimeter around the building and gunships in the air"

Hadley looked around as everyone ran around, panicking and trying to get things done.

She quickly spotted Tony and Nat and went to them

"please tell me you brought a suit" Nat said as they ran through the hall, Hadley struggled to keep up

"Sure did. It's a lovely Tom Ford, three-piece, two-button." Tony said sarcastically, "I'm an active-duty non-combatant."

"Tony!" Hadley said quickly, trying to keep up, "let me help"

"No way! You're injured and you're staying here." Tony commanded, turning back to go to her and stop her hurried pursuit, "I am not risking losing you again. Stay here I mean it."

Hadley scoffed as she watched Tony run off

"What the hell Stark?" She grumbled before taking a breath and hurrying in the direction Tony had just gone

She patted her pockets for a quiet moment before pulling out the tablet that contained her suit.

She pressed the button and kept stumble-running after them as her suit overtook her

Once her suit was completely on, she ditched her crutches

"Ma'am, your leg appears to be broken" A.V.A. said as she hurried down the hallway, fighting the pain

"Picked up on that did you?" She asked as she ran

She rounded a corner quickly and caught up with Tony, who hid behind a corner. He saw her and his eyes widened

"Hadley what the he-"

"Complain later, fight now" she interrupted

She hurried past him and into the dining area where James Buchanan Barnes stood, fighting off guards

She was quick to run to him and kick him a little too hard with her hurt foot

She let out a pained noise "fuck!"

She fought through, fighting Bucky through his punches as Tony ran to them, an iron glove outfitting his hand

He grabbed Bucky's gun by the barrel and looked at it in quiet shock as Bucky fired at his hand

The two fought Bucky for a little longer before being thrown back as Bucky ran out of the building

Hadley's leg crumbled under her and she fell to the ground

Tony went to chase after Bucky but stopped when he saw Hadley

He sighed and went to her quickly

He lifted her to her feet "are you okay?" He asked, she nodded quickly, "what were you thinking?? You're never gonna heal if you do shit like this!"

"Like I was gonna let you run off into a fight without me. We're a team Tony. We fight together" Hadley said

"Not when one of us is badly injured!" He retorted

"Tony." Hadley said, taking his hand, leaning on him lightly, "we're in this together. If we go down then we go down together"

Tony sighed and set a hand on her cheek, pulling her to him, pressing his forehead against hers

"God I love you.." he mumbled

"I love you too Stark but we should get back to the conference room. Ross can't be happy about this" she said, looking at him

Tony sighed and nodded before pressing the button on her suit to take it off. Then he scooped her up and walked back to the conference room
