~Chapter 7~
Hadley met with Tony at a hospital after he dropped Peter off
She walked quietly next to him on her crutches as he walked up to Vision, who stood in front of the glass, watching Rhodes in the MRI machine
"How did this happen?" Tony asked him
"I became... distracted." Vision said softly
"I didn't think that was possible." Tony said, looking at him
"Neither did I." Vision replied softly
Tony sighed and walked down the hall, Hadley followed him
"Are you alright?" She asked
"I guess..." He mumbled, putting his hands in his pockets
"Rhodey is gonna be... Fine... He's strong" Hadley said
Tony looked at her and nodded before looking to the end of the hall where Natasha stood out on the balcony, looking over the railing
"The doctors say he shattered L4 through S1. Extreme laceration to the spinal cord. Probably looking at some form of paralysis." Tony said to her as he walked up.
Hadley leaned on the wall a little ways away.
"Steve's not gonna stop." Nat said, "If you don't either, Rhodey's gonna be the best case scenario."
"You let them go, Nat." Tony stated, looking at her harshly
"We played this wrong." Nat said, looking back
"We?" Tony asked, "Boy, it must be hard to shake the whole double agent thing, huh? It sticks in the DNA."
Hadley looked at Tony in surprise at that statement
"Are you incapable of letting go of your ego... for one goddamn second?" Nat asked, scoffing
"T'Challa told Ross what you did, so... they're coming for you." Tony informed her
"I'm not the one that needs to watch their back." Nat replied before storming off
Tony sighed deeply and leaned on the railing, his face in his hands
He mumbled a small curse to himself as he rubbed his head
Hadley went over to him and set a hand on his shoulder. He looked at her and leaned on her quietly, sighing as she carded her fingers lightly through his hair
They stood like this for a silent moment before Tony's watch buzzed.
He looked at it and tapped it. A holographic projection of a dead man appeared in front of them. The man who was supposed to be Bucky's psychiatrist the day he escaped... The man who did not show up.
Hadley looked at the picture then Tony
"What am I looking at here F.R.I.D.A.Y.?" He asked
"Priority upload from Berlin police" F.R.I.D.A.Y. replied
Tony stared at the picture for a moment before sighing "Fire up the chopper"
