A/N: it's a lot shorter than I though, but at least it's something. Hope you enjoy (still don't own anything that has to do with Divergent).

Chapter 17

Third person's POV

"I have to tell you something." The smile that was once on his face drops. He expects the worse. "I go early accepted into the University of Los Angeles, and I went to meet up with a guy this morning, but--" He cuts her off. What she meant to say is that; but I didn't accept the offer because they would only allow me to come in January, but I don't want to go because I want to stay here, with you. I love you.
She never got to finish that sentence. All hells break loose. "How long have you've known this?" About three weeks, almost a month.
"Almost a month." He barely whispers. She's ashamed that she kept this from him for so long. That enrages him a little, that she kept this from him for so long. He's also upset because he doesn't want her to leave him.
"A month?! Tris you kept this secret for, a month?!" She flinches when he shouts at her.
"You didn't let me finish, I--"
"I don't care!" He should care, she was about to explain. "I can't believe you, Tris. Did you ever think about telling me sooner?"
"I was. I was going to, but, but. But I..."
"But you didn't. I can't. Tris, I can't believe you would do this to me. When do they want you?"
"January." She says, barely audible.
"Tris! That's less than two weeks away! Who else knew about this?"
"Caleb, my parents, and Christina." She squeaks.
Now he's furious, she told Christina before him. He's her best friend, boyfriend.
"You told Christina before me? I thought, I thought--"
"Well obviously that was the right decision. At least she supported me, Tobias! Your my boyfriend, you're suppose to be supportive. Gosh!"
"I am being supportive!"
"Really?" Her sarcasm is so noticeable. "You're being supportive by yelling at me? By scolding me like I'm your child that just told you I dropped out of College? Gosh Tobias, you never even let me finish!"
"I don't need you to finish! Tris I thought--you were gone for almost two years and you showed up, we healed our relationship, but now what is this?" He gestures to the space between them. "Tris, I'm sorry but if we can't trust each other, I don't think this is going to work." She starts to shed a few tears, she can't hold it in anymore.
"Are you breaking up with me?" Her vulnerability is showing, he has never seen her in this state, it's frightening and it breaks his heart a little.
He wishes he can take the words back, but it's too late now. "Yeah." Even he is crying now, he never cries. The last time he cried was when his mother left for Australia for a few years. That was when he was ten. He's now seventeen.
Right after he leaves her room, he hears, "he never let me finished." He pauses mid-step, the door is slightly open so Tris doesn't know he's still there. "I love you, Tobias. I love you." The last thing he hears is her loud sobs.
Tobias' POV

"You fucking idiot! What exactly did she tell you?" Christina tries to lunge at me, but is held back by Will.
"So earlier to me she called me if we could hang out, so I told her I was free after practice and whatnot. When I came to her house she told me she got accepted into UCLA--" I am cut off.
"That's amazing!" Shauna and Marlene exclaim.
"Yeah, but I got mad, and asked her when she got accepted and she told me almost a month ago. You don't do that right? Keep secrets from your boyfriend? Right?"
"You don't, but were at least happy for her?" Lynn asks.
I'm silent. I feel like a complete asshole right now. Instead of being supportive, I ended up yelling at her and broke up with her.
"You fucking moron! I am going to rip you to shreds piece by piece scrap by scrap. Four, you are going to have a slow painful death." Christina goes on, but Will covers her mouth, but she bites him. He yelps.
"Four, I agree. That was a stupid move." Zeke starts.
"Damn right it was." Chris agrees. "Did you at least let her explain herself?"
Once again, I'm silent.
"Fuck you." She sighs, "if you let her finish, she was going to decline the offer. Well, she did decline the offer. She told me this morning that she doesn't want to go all the way across the country and leave you. Four, she doesn't want to leave us. You especially, she told me that. For god's sakes, she declined the offer because she loves you."
"Then how come she hasn't said it back?" I snap.
"Just listen to this." Christina place her phone on the table and plays something.
"Chris?" It's Tris.
"Hey, Tris, what's up?" I'm assuming that she and Tris are talking on the phone.
"So you know how I had a meeting with the David guy. I mean, like the administrer guy, from the department or whatever?"
"Yeah..just get on with it."
"I declined the offer. I want to stay her. With you guys. With Four." My heart sinks a little, I am the biggest jerk on this whole planet.
"What why would you do that?" Chris asks.
"It doesn't seem right. Yeah, I know it's a really good school and all. Athletic and smart people. But, I just-I just. I love Tob-Four, and I don't want to leave him. Also, I tried asking them if I could come in the fall, but they said they weren't sure, which is stupid because who the hell knows if they even started accepting people yet." She takes a deep breath. "I'm going to tell Four tonight, about everything. I-I, I think I'm going to tell him I love him. Right? Is that a good thing to do? Explain everything to him, and tell him the only reason that I declined is because I love him? Or I am in love with him?"
"Wow, yeah. I'm speechless. Love can overpower anything, huh?" Chris says.
Tris giggles, "damn right it can."

The recording ends right there, and I feel like I'm going to cry again. She loves me. She said. She loves me, and I was so mad at her that I never thought about how this would affect her.
"So she is about to tell you that she loves you, and you dump her? Wow Four, Chris is right. Fuck you." Shauna glares at me.
Chris' phone rings. "Hello? Aww, sweetie are you okay?" She glares at me. "Of course I will. Okay, bye." Christina hangs up the phone, and grabs her purse. "I'm going to Safeway."
"Wait, why?" Will asks confused.
"I need to buy a shit load of ice-cream. It's for Tris."
"I'm coming." Shauna jumps up.
"Me too." Marlene says.
"Same here." Lynn stands up.
Right before they leave, Chris glares at me. "Four, I hope you die in a hole."

Tris' POV
I sniff. "Thanks, guys. I really need this." I take a spoonful of ice-cream and shove it my mouth, while angrily wiping my tears.
"You okay? Wait, don't answer that." Lynn pats me in the back and leans her head against my shoulder. "He's an idiot."
"No, I'm an idiot also. From keeping this from him, all of you, too. Ugh, I just wish he let me finish what I was going to say."
"I know, sweetie. I know." Mar says sympathetically.
"Would it be bad if I stayed home tomorrow? I really don't want to go to school. I just want to stay home and like die in a hole."
"We'll stay with you. Screw the boys, we are going to have a girls day tomorrow. Go to the mall, get our nails done and all that shit. Okay?" Shauna proposes.
I sigh, "Okay, I guess that will help." I am so grateful for having such amazing friends that care about me. I have no idea what I'd do without them. "Thanks guys, I really appreciate what you are doing. It really means a lot to me."
"Of course, Tris." Lynn says.
