Chapter 23
Tris' POV

When the song ends, Tobias and I slowly pull apart. He smiles widely at me and kisses my head.

"I-" He kisses my cheek.
"Love-" A kiss on the jaw. "You." He places a kiss on my lips, I grab him by the beltloop to pull him closer, and my hands slowly inch up to wrap around his neck. I feel him smile even wider if that's possible.

Why am I doing this to myself? I mean, we aren't even dating!

"Woah." I hear Zeke say. "Do you think they'd notice if I stole their food?"

"Don't, Zeke." I pull back slightly. I see everyone but Mar and Uri until she comes running in deathtraps. How does she--

"Uriah purposed! Well, it's actually a promise ring, but--"

"WHAT? WHEN?" Christina looks at a grinning Uriah.

"I went with Tris after school."

Christina's head snaps to me and her eyes narrow. I smile innocently at her. "He asked for help on my birthday three weeks ago." Her glare softens and she starts to smile.

"My little Tris is growing up." She sniffs. "You're starting to get good at picking things out."

"Uriah actually picked it out. I was like a bystander watching him and telling him which ones not to get for her. But it's beautiful isn't it?" Marlene smiles brightly at the ring on her finger.

"I want to take you somewhere." Tobias whispers into my ear.

"Hmm? Where?"

"Just follow me." He grabs my hand and leads me out of the gym. I follow him through the halls of the school trying not to trip over my dress every once in a while. He leads me into a garden in the back of the school and plops down on a bench.

"Sit." He instructs.

I am about to sit next to him until he grabs my waist and pulls me so I am sitting on his lap.

"So why exactly are we here?" I break the silence.

"I wanted to come here for some peace and quiet. I also wanted to spend some alone time with you." He whispers in my ear.

We sit there for a few minutes with his head resting in the crook of my neck and me slumping against him.

"You know we're not dating right?" I break the silence.

He sighs. "And why is that, Tris? I really don't understand the point of this. Like you say we aren't dating, but every time we see each other, I think otherwise."

"I don't want to disappoint you, Tobias. If you don't get into a college near my school, then what are you going to do? I don't want you to keep waiting and waiting for something that may never actually happen." I explain.

"And who says it's not going to happen. I got an acceptance letter to California Institute of Technology maybe to study computer science. The school is only an hour away from yours and maybe I can find an apartment like half an hour away from the school, so instead of being an hour away we'd only be a half an hour away. I haven't heard from UCLA yet, their letters aren't coming till next week. We can make this work Tris, I promise."

"I'm so proud of you." I telling while looking at him straight in the eye. "But I don't want you to do this stuff just to be near me."

"I know, but I want to. I want to be near you and I think it would be a great opportunity of me to take the spot." He defends.

"Thank you. I love you, you know." I kiss his cheek.

"So, what, what exactly are we?" He asks me after a while of sitting near each other.
