Chapter Seven

Ginger POV

"My mom tried to save me." I finally managed to cough out.

Look of shock flooded the room.

"Save you from what?" Uncle Ray asked.

Flashback

I was sleeping in my room. Mama's boyfriend came in drunk as usual. But I heard yelling, and I went downstairs to check it out.

"I told you,Eric, I'm not selling drugs for you anymore."

"But you made a deal Heather-"

"But I'm pregnant!"

 He was saying something foolish when he slapped my mama! I ran down the stairs to get hit him but he slammed me down and started choking me.

"This is me and your mother's business!" He spat in my face.

All I could do is cough, until my mom came behind him and hit him upside the head with a lamp.

"Run!" My mother helped me up.

By this time, my throat was sore and lungs were burning. I made it to my friend Maria's house.

I banged on her door.

"What's up Mami?" Maria opened the door.

I was told that I passed out.

"That's all I know." I was breathing hard now.

"Rest up, Babygirl. We got this." August kissed my forehead.

I nodded my head, and everybody left the room, everybody but Uncle Ray.

"How long was this going on?" He paced around the room.

"About..... 2 years?" I closed my eyes.

He continued to talk. "You haven't said anything?"

I shook my head.

He paced around the room. "You're staying with me now."

"What? But mom needs me-"

"She will be fine by herself. Your health is on thin ice and we will not have you dying."

He walked out of the room. I just closed my eyes again and went to sleep.

August POV

Everyone was in the waiting room, either shocked or confused. I was enraged. Why Ginger? What did she do to deserve this?

"We need to get the cops on this dude, like right now." Nicki shrugged and laid back in her seat.

"How? We don't even know where him or her mother is!" Trey leaned against the wall.

"Well, the police should have a lead by now, but then again it does take time." Aaliyah got up to hug Trey.

Teyana heels click-clacked down the hall and stopped in front of us.

"What's happening? Is Ginger okay?"

"We really don't know, she said she fine but..." I scratched the back of my head.

"Look, baby don't stress over this." Janet hugged me.

"But, she's like my little sis. If I don't have her back, who does?" I took my snap back off and hugged her.

"I just can't believe this." Teyana rolled her eyes.

"You can go see her, but she's probably sleep." Chris said.

"I'll let her rest." Teyana sat next to Liyah.

It was a long silence until Liyah's phone started ringing.

She put on a smile. "Sorry, I rally have to take this." She got up and answered.

"It's Damon." Nicki tried to whisper in Teyana's ear.

I sat next to Janet and held her hand.

"August, I have to go." Janet checked her phone and kissed me.

I don't have good vibes about that Damon guy.

Aaliyah POV

I just got off the phone with Dame, but it's hard to talk about anything with Ginger in the ICU.

"Liyah, you good?" Nicki crept behind me.

"Yeah, I'm cool." I sat with Rihanna.

August opened the door to Ginger's room.

"Aye, she's up y'all!" He walked in the room.

We all crammed into the door and Ginger was sitting up looking at us.

"Hi." She waved.

"Hey boo." Teyana hugged her.

Ginger started coughing. "You smell like cologne."

"Oh my God!" I said out loud.

"Oops, sorry Gingersnap." Teyana backed away.

"Did the doctor say when you were coming home?"

"The doctor said as soon as she can breathe and eat on her own, she's free to go." Ray told us.

"And as soon as that happens, we're having a girls' night." I kissd her forehead.

Ginger nodded her head.

"So, how's Ginger doing?" I looked her in the eye.

"Just fine, I hope." She played with her nails.

"Look, Heather, you and the baby will be fine." I rubbed her stomach.

We took off driving, where we'll stop, nobody knows.
