(Apologies for not updating sooner, I have been very overwhelmed with exams and schoolwork. I've also been trying to figure out how to write this chapter for a while.)
049 was never one to let personal emotions meddle in his discovery for a sufficient cure, he was far more dedicated than any of the scientists that squawked their ignorance upon the knowledge of his practice.
But you had spurred quite an outburst from him-he allowed himself to be vulnerable and momentarily forget his profession. Not that he was proud of it, mind you. You were ignorant-blind to the shadows that painted your world in malice-you cut down his work as if you knew what he was achieving at all! You could not possibly comprehend what he was doing for you-for humanity. He would never let himself live it down how easily he let your words bother him.
Human lives were fickle-he mused in this reminder as you were dragged into the endless abyss beneath you-your eyes were wide with frantic distress when it happened. His old friend had attempted to 'help' you-though within the mask's gaze there was still the hint of sly pleasure as your struggling form disappeared within the murky depths. 049 wouldn't say it was all that entertaining, however, who was he to change what fate had planned? There was nothing he could've done-you were gone within an instant.
His posture straightened, turning to the other two beings left. "We should continue," 049 eyed the blonde woman-Lisa-and tilted his head as she balled her fists, "I apologise truly for your loss-"
"Don't pretend to care," the young girl choked-fingernails digging into her palms ferociously, "don't just..say that as if they're gone. They can make it out." He sighed. This was the pocket dimension that they were regarding-the chances of you seeing the light of day was slim.035 chortled, the decaying mess that he called his hand creeping to half-heartedly cover the ever persistent grin he had, "That's not an idea you should muse, perhaps the corrosion will fester in them?" Just thought of such an idea made the mask laugh in glee, to see you struggle to remain alive despite the stakes being against you..now that's something to look forward too! A human's determination to stay alive-despite being already dead to begin with!
Without much word-Lisa trudged forth. Her eyes drooped as tried to ignore the anomalies that tailed her without much care (she hated how heartless they were) she was truly worried for you (god she hopes you're ok.)
But she couldn't cry, she was far too exhausted and drained despite the loss weighing her down reverently.
"You're always down! At least try and enjoy yourself! Honestly!" The mask's face contorted to a deadly frown-mouth pulling downwards drastically, hands gesturing in exasperation, "What a lousy-!"
"It is normal for her to feel upset, 035" the doctor quipped back sternly-fed up with the dramatics.Silence once again settled upon the trio, Lisa only murmuring incomprehensible gibberish as she veered off to a collection of offices-before stopping dead in her tracks. Some of the doors were completely busted down-fresh, lukewarm blood dripping from the tiles and pooling in sickening ways.
"..you two have been through this before, what do we do next?" The blonde's voice was very soft-almost as if a gust of wind could snap the string of syllables with a simple 'pluck!' She grimaced upon catching sight of the pathetic shitshow in front of her-how she allowed herself to ask them for guidance. (She wasn't proud of it one bit.)With a nonchalant wave of his hand, the doctor allowed his eyes to squint-almost ridiculing the unfortunate before him, "all that we can do is scavenge for anything of use. Considering the doors are obsolete currently, I believe we should be able to-"
"Waltz right out of this facility!" 035 cut in-chest puffing up and hands gesturing vastly as he soon followed through with a victorious and prideful huff. Much to the plague doctor's annoyance.Lisa did not have much to say, she was hoping that you would pop up any minute now-that you'd assure her that you were fine and the both of you would escape from the foundation. Escape from the scps as well.
A small sigh passed, "I guess we just..get out of here."
"I believe I recall where Gate A is, that is our best chance at escaping. We should make haste."
A silent look was sent towards Lisa as the doctor took charge-brushing past his companions and listening intently for the sound of any victims of the disease that were still roaming-spreading the disease carelessly with each waking breath. As the good doctor's mind trailed, he mulled mutely over his options-no doubt Lisa was infected. When the time came he'd cure her and be on his way-
"Scp-173 contained successfully-!" The intercom stuttered and bolstered-three pairs of eyes attracted to the speaker like magnets (one pair with unease, two other pairs with annoyance.)"So, they were more prepared this time hm?" The once comedy mask had derailed to tragedy-the corrosive secretions becoming more overbearing upon the white porcelain features of the SCP-decomposing hands furling as a searing feeling of irritation had penetrated the atmosphere.
Unfortunately, whilst the SCPs and the D-class were preoccupied with marching through the hallways for a seamless exit, they had let their guard down.
"SCP-035 and 049 spotted!" Lisa whirled round-eyes widening as more heavier and pounding footsteps swiftly approached.
The presumed leader of the nine-tailed fox unit stood tall-eyes locking onto the girl with a blank expression.
"With a stray D-class!"
