Aleksander lays in bed as I sit in the chair next to him. He has caught a fever and is terribly ill. I hold his hand and kiss his knuckles as he coughs. Suddenly it turns into a violent coughing fit. I sit on the bed with him and hold him in my arms. I reach over grabbing the mug of hot water and honey. "Aleksander, love, drink this. It will help." I say holding the cup to his lips. He gently sips it and makes a disgusted face. "That tastes awful." He groans. "I know but it will help with your cough." I tell him.
I set the cup down and get into the covers with him. I lay him onto my chest. He groans and snuggles further into me. "Shh. It's alright. Just relax." I soothe. I run my fingers through his fluffy black hair. "My little darkling." I chuckle. He sighs and closes his eyes. "Do you want me to read to you?" I ask. He nods lazily. I reach over to the bed side table and grab a book. "Is twilight alright?" I ask him. He nods again.
"I've never given much thought to how I would die- thought I've had reason enough the last few months- but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this. I stared without breathing across the long room, into the dark eyes of the hunter, and he looked pleasantly back at me. Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of someone else, someone I loved. Nobel, even. That ought to count for something. I knew that if I'd never gone to Forks, I wouldn't be facing death right now. But, terrified as I was, I couldn't bring myself to regret the decision. When life offers you a dream far beyond any of your expectations, it's not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end. The hunter smiled a friendly was as he sauntered forward to kill me." I read. I gaze down at Aleksander only to see him sound asleep. I kiss his head and lay next to him falling asleep knowing he is safe in my arms.
A few hours later...
I slowly open my eyes after one of the best night sleeps I've ever had. I expected to see the beautiful sun casting its orange and gold rays through the curtains but instead all I saw was a storm outside. Aleksander. He does this when he is in pain, panicking or in a bad mood.
I turn to face him and I see he is curled in a ball whimpering with his face scrunched up. I take him into my arms. "Aleksander, my love, I'm here. Just listen to my voice and you'll be alright." I smile. He whimpers even more and lets out a sob. I create a soft light that isn't to hot and absorb it into my palms. I gently place my hand on his stomach and rub. His skin soaks in the heat and he shivers at the feeling. "Is that nice?" I ask. He nods in response.
I peck his forehead and he starts to relax. "Why don't you use your shadows? They always help." I suggest. He nods and engulfs us in a light shadow. He relaxes and soon falls back into a deep sleep, with me rubbing his belly.
Suddenly a head pops in the room. It's Alina. "Hello Alina." I greet. "Hello Y/n. How is he feeling?" She asks stepping into the room. "Not so great. I think he has a fever or something because he keeps mumbling about turning into a giant creature." I say confused.
She frowns but then her eyes widen with worry. "You need to wake him up! Like now before it's too late!" She rambles. "Woah woah Alina calm down. What going on?" I ask. "Bagrah told me a story of a giant black creature. The legend says that whenever a Shadow Summoner has fever like symptoms that's what they will turn into." She tells me.
My eyes widen. "Go find Bagrah tell her-" I panic only to be cut off by someone. "No need! I'm here." Bagrah exclaims. "Y/n I need you to wake him up and we need to get him down to the dungeon." She urges. I nod and gently shake Aleksander. "Alek darling you need to wake up." I urge him. He groans and screams in pain. "I know darling, we need to get you out of here!" I panic.
Suddenly his shoulders snap back and his arm starts to snap into different places. "Alek!" I cry. Bagrah grabs me and pulls me back. "It's too late. Alina, close all of the windows and curtains and lock the door. Y/n is the only one who can help him." She orders. "How can I help?!" I ask. "He needs your touch. It will relieve some pain. He also needs me. I'm his mothers so he will instantly come to me." She tells me and sits on the bed next to her son.
Alek screams but it turns into a animal like screech. I sit with her next to him and hold him. She strokes his hair and she kisses his head. "I'm sorry son." She whispers. "Y/n get over here!" She calls. I scoot right over next to Alek. I grab his hands and kiss them. "I'm here my darling." I soothe. He starts to whimper less at my touch. I rub his back as he moans in pain.
"Mother make it stop!" He begs sobbing. It breaks my heart. "I'm sorry." She whispers to him cuddling him into her chest. "Y/n!" He whimpers. "I'm here, don't worry." I soothe. "Bagrah how long will this take?!" Alina asks worried. "It should be over soon." She tells us.
Suddenly Aleksander is replaced by a big black creature. He screeches at us and growls. "Aleksander?" I whisper holding my hand out. He growls at me and Bagrah drags me away. "Stay back you foolish girl! He can kill you instantly." She hisses. I pull out of her grip. "Just because he can doesn't mean he will." I growl.
I go back to Aleksander and hold my hand out as a peace offering. "Trust me Alek." I whisper. He slowly places his head on my hand. "Well done." I grin. He is still my Aleksander. Deep down. At least this won't last much longer.
