I sit curled up on the couch, near the window on my level of Stark Tower, with a book in hand. I'm currently reading my favourite book, Twilight: Eclipse, for the third time. Steve is due back from a mission any minute now and he promised I could meet his friend he's told me so much about.

Just as I turn the page onto chapter five the elevator dings. I place my book mark in the book and place it on the coffee table. I grab the two coffees I've had ready for Steve and his friend and head to the elevator.

Just as I round the corner I bump into a hard chest, coating them with hot coffee. "Oh shit! I'm so sorry!" I panic. Just as I pull away from the man I look up and gasp, dropping the mugs in my hands. As they smash on the floor I cover my mouth in shock.

Blue meets y/e/c. He stares at me panicked and turn to Steve frightened. "Y/n this is my best friend-" Steve starts only for me to cut him off. "James." I gasp. "How did you know his name?" Steve asks protective of his best friend.

"Who did I hurt that you knew?" James asks looking down. "W-What?!" I stutter. "Who did I kill?" He whispers. "Oh! Nobody! It's just- Oh I never thought I'd see you again!" I cry softly, cupping his cheeks. He stares at me shocked and confused.

"I don't know you." He tells me. Then it dawns to me. I remember him but he won't remember me. I pull away chuckling, wiping my tears. "Of course. I remember you but you don't remember me. How could you? They would have erased all memory of me after I left." I cry softly.

"Y/n?" Steve asks worried. "I don't know you but I feel like I do." James whispers. "Steve I haven't been fully truthful to you. God, I wish I could change the past." I smile through tears.

I walk to my shelf and reach for a box that I keep hidden from others. I head back to the boys and lead them to the sofa. "You know I've been around longer than you Steve. I've told you I had a son but I never fully explained it." I sigh. "You can tell me Y/n, it's alright." Steve smiles gently.

"I was captured by hydra, trapped. I was heavily pregnant. When my son was born I knew what I had to do. I managed to convince hydra to let me go shopping for baby necessities. However I lied saying I needed the bathroom and I gave him to a family where he would be safe. I was taken back to Hydra and I never saw him again until he was older." I explain.

"What does this have to do with Bucky though?" Steve asks confused. "Bucky?" I ask as I giggle. He frowns and I compose myself. I sigh and stare down at the box in my hands. "It's best I show you." I sigh standing up.

I walk over to James and sit next to him. "I think you should see this." I smile softly, handing him the wooden box. He furrows his eyebrows but opens the box.

He pulls out a photo of me holding my baby boy and stares at it. He places it down gently and pulls out my baby's birth tag. His eyes widen as the reads the name. "James Buchanan Barnes."

"No. That's not possible! I grew up in Brooklyn! I grew up there with my parents and sister! I wasn't born in hydra I was just captured by them!" James retorts standing up, pacing. "I understand you don't believe me but please let me explain!" I beg.

"Fine!" He sighs sitting down again.

Flashback to 10th March 1917:

I scream and pain rips through my body. My son is on his way and I have no medical assistance to birth him. They just gave me towels and a bucket with water and a rag.

I wish it hadn't come to this. I wish my son wasn't going to be born into this world of pain. I never wanted him to become property of Hydra but I don't have a choice. I push as hard as I can, to birth my son, until I hear the soft cries of my sweet baby.
