The heart transplant was complex, being that it was the second time Sapphire was having a heart transplant surgery. The open heart surgery took longer with her body, receiving oxygen-rich blood, which is why she was connected to a heart-lung bypass machine.

After that, the cardiovascular surgeon made an incision, to operate on her heart. The incision was made such that her chest bone was separated and her rib cage was opened. The surgeon then removed the artificial heart, and replaced it with the donor's heart. The healthy donor heart was then sewn in place, and her blood vessels were attached to it. This process enabled blood to flow, as Sapphire's new heart then starts to beat normally. Although, the surgery lasted for seven long hours, everything went successful.

After the heart transplant procedure was completed, Sapphire received pain relief medications. Ventilator was attached to her nostrils for easy breathing. Fluids were drained from her tiny body with the help of tubes that were attached to her heart and lungs. She also received medicines and fluids through IV tubes once the surgery had been completed. After this, Sapphire was taken to the ICU  to rest while the surgeons walked out of the operation room.

At Mayo Clinic
10:00 p.m.

Sapphire parents were impatiently waiting for the doctors announcement but there was nothing. Mr. John Blac was seated in the reception room. His wife, Fiona, sat beside him, placing her head in his shoulder in support. Her swollen eyes were open in halves as she was forcing the sleep not to come. Lucas was awaiting in Jade's room, alongside, Kate Alejandro. Nobody was able to leave yet. Knowing that Sapphire got a heart donor felt magical. Zoey on the other hand was seated close to Mr and Mrs Blac.

The emergency room door swinged open as the  surgeons walked out looking all worked up and tired. Sapphire's dad opened his eyes as he doctor walked towards where they were seated.

"How is she?" John Blac stood up to the doctor and asked. Unsettled. "Can we see her now?"

Mrs Fiona then woke up, walking between where her husband was standing, and the doctor.
"How did the surgery go? Can I see my daughter now?" Her eyes danced and searched the doctors grey eyes for positive answers.

"Umm... The surgery went well. There was no complications whatsoever. But you won't be able to see Sapphire until after 24 hours ma'am."

"Oh no! Why can't I see her now, please?" Fiona begged. Her face looking so pale from the tears and stress of waiting.

"You'll have to wait till tomorrow morning at least. You need to understand that she just undergo a heart transplant surgery and her condition is critical right now. Any slight  mistake can case internal bleedings and possibly, death." The doctor muttered unwillingly but it came out sounding really harsh.
"Excuse me ma'am." He lowered his head before walking into his office with a little guilt in his eyes.

"Oh no! My poor daughter. She's been through enough already. Dear God, please save Sapphire from the hands of death." She prayed as John helped her back to where they were seated. He gently placed her head back to his shoulder.

"Don't worry, wifey. We would see her tomorrow morning." He muttered in a low, croaky voice.

Meanwhile, just that minute, Sapphire's index finger moved a little. She was attached to many tubes and medical equipment surrounding her bed. Due to her open heart surgery, the supporting breathing tube and ventilator assisted her in breathing. With these, soft restraints were placed on Sapphire's wrists to keep her from accidentally pulling on tubes whenever she wakes.

The glittering sun-rays spread various hues of shiny silvers and golds. The light danced through the gap in the drapes, illuminating the tall building of the hospital into the room where Sapphire was. It was a bit darker but the bulbs brightened it up a little. Her tiny arms stretched a little, feeling every muscle in my body awaken, relishing in the horribly moment of the stretch.
