2023 A.D.

"Druig, love."

He turned around at the sound of her voice, his features softening. He stopped frowning, his eyebrows relaxed, and his eyes glistened. "Hey, Kashi."

She took his hand in hers, holding it to her chest. "What are you thinking about?"

"When we left Tenochtitlan."

"Jinx." She told him, grinning. She paused, thinking about how to tell him what he already knew. "I think we should help." She whispered, although she knew he wouldn't raise his voice for this.

"Why's that?"

"I think you know why." She said, leaning in to kiss him lightly. "We would die, and be reborn. And have our memories wiped, and get new ones."

"Mhm." He agreed, closing his eyes. She knew she was winning him over.

"I don't want to lose you. Not ever."

"Me either." They were holding each other now, arms around each other, swaying slightly.

"Everything else is ephemeral." She breathed in his ear.

"But not us." He whispered back, holding her close to him.

"Do you hear that?" She asked, whipping her head around her shoulder.

"Mhm."
