17 year old Teresa is a Erudite-born Dauntless-transfer who leads a dangerous life.
It is more dangerous than any other Dauntless life, for one simple reason:
Teresa is undercover in a place known as 'The Fringe'.
The city of Chicago is protected from it by the Abegnation and the Factionless, who hide it away behind their numbers.
Most of the people living inside the safe haven-like city have never even heard of this terrible place.
But Teresa is stuck in the middle of it, working to find a cure for a disease killing off those known as Divergent.
"What can I do to help, ma'am?"
"What are you willing to do?"
"Anything to help, ma'am."
"Would you die?"
"Would it help?"
"Maybe."
"Then maybe, ma'am."
"Follow me."
She is stuck in this dreadful place when suddenly the reason why she has been sent here becomes clear.

For her Aptitude Test Results were inconclusive: she only managed to narrow it down to three factions, rather than the standard one.
