We got to The Next Step just in time. We had just about enough time to rush to our homes to get our dance things before getting to the Studio 
"Ready?" Riley asked as we got out of the truck, I nodded locking the door before taking her hand walking into the building
As soon as we were close enough to Studio A, we could hear chatting, arguing, loud voices. 
I turned to look at Riley who was just as confused as I was until we heard Miss Kate speak over everyone
"Guys we didn't have any other choice. We needed to submit the names and she was the only person on B-Troupe without a commitment yet" Miss Kate said making Riley and I more confused
Until we walked into Studio A

As soon as we stepped foot inside, Riley's and my eyes saw Beth stood next to Miss Kate
"Oh great! You guys are here!" Miss Kate smiled as Riley and I headed over to everyone. The boys did their usual exchange with me while the girls hugged Riley
"Where were you two" Beth asked and both Riley and I chose to ignore her
"What did we miss" Riley asked smiling at Miss Kate
"Well, Amanda has had to leave so we needed another Alternate so I've had to bring Beth up from B-Troupe" Miss Kate said, I looked down at Riley trying to read her expression
"As an Alternate?" Riley asked and Everyone nodded after Miss Kate had to excuse herself
"So what's the problem?" She asked and she had a point I guess

"Because she's going to be here every practice. Watching our every move" Noah muttered, this shouldn't be a problem for anyone but Riley and if Riley is okay with it, why shouldn't we be
"Who knows maybe I'll take your spot Riley" Beth smirked making Riley chuckle
She detached our hands before standing right in front of Beth.
Everyone was watching the exchange with the intent to step in if things got physical 
"No you won't" Riley chuckled crossing her hands
"You're an Alternate Beth. You sit on the sidelines, you don't get to compete, you don't get any attention. If someone was to fall ill you would be our last choice. You are going to sit around watching me do everything you could only fucking dream of doing" Riley said with a smirk
"Good luck with that" Riley said tapping her shoulder before turning away

"Beth someone is here for you" Miss Kate said coming back motioning to the door where Sam stood. Oh that boy has a lot of nerve
"Hey Sammy" Beth said rushing over to him to give him a Kiss only making Riley and I laugh
She was pathetic, nah that's an understatement 

Riley and I were sat around Studio A waiting for Miss Kate and Beth to join us again, we were chilling with A-Troupe talking about this weekend
"You two missed a crazy party" Eldon teased
"So crazy that Amanda ended up hurt?" Riley said rolling her eyes
"hey she didn't get hurt at the party" Stephanie said defending her no injury rule
"Yeah she got hurt on the way home. She should not be walking in heels alone when pissed" Thalia said
"What idiot let her walk home alone?" I asked looking at the boys who all avoided eye contact
The boys and I made a pact that no matter what, none of our girls would walk home alone drunk. We know the type of men out there 
"Where did you guys run off to anyway" Michelle teased, I glanced over at Riley before seeing Beth and Miss Kate approaching while Sam sat watching like he has done in the past
"We went down to Hamilton for the weekend" Riley smiled looking at me
"One of Jiley's famous Camping trips then?" Eldon asked and we both nodded

"Alright Team lets work this through" Miss Kate called
"Were there any routines that Amanda was in?" Miss Kate asked as we all stood up
"She was in Unsinkable" Riley said before glancing over at Beth
"Then we'll have to work Beth into that number" Miss Kate confirmed. That wouldn't be hard to do, Amanda wasn't doing any of the partner work in it
"Any others?" Beth said piping up
"Nope." Riley said popping the P

"Okay, Riley and James. How is the duet coming along?" Miss Kate asked and I looked at Riley with a smile
"Great actually" I replied poking her side making her laugh
"Can we see?" Max asked, I looked at Riley again who shrugged
"Alrighty then" Miss Kate said making everyone clear the floor
Truth be told, this isn't our National duet but it was a great duet we created. Riley and I had decided on an even better one while we were away

"Wow guys!" I hear Eldon call over the applause coming from everyone except one person
Sam was even clapping but Beth? Beth was being a stone cold bitch
"That was amazing, I think we could easily win with that" Miss Kate said clapping as everyone crowded us
"I don't know, Riley could have pointed her feet a little more" Beth said twirling her hair around her finger
"If I pointed it anymore it was have been sharp enough to stab her" Riley muttered to me making both of us laugh
"I think Riley's points were perfect" Miss Kate rebutted to Beth, this was going to be an interesting showdown is Beth continues
Everyone knows Riley is her favourite. It's kind of the equivalent to Beth chatting shit about Miss Kate's daughter
